Fig jam additives?
I just found some jars of fig jam I had made late last summer. I opened one for breakfast and it was...OK. Nothing special flavor-wise. I doubt that I will ever make it again (this isn't exactly fig country) but if I do, can anyone suggest a complementary fruit additive for more flavor? It could stand some tartness. Lemon or orange juice and zest? What about anything to stir in to the jam that's already made? gloria p |

Fig jam additives?
We usually slice lemons up, deseed, and add to the fig jam, one or two
lemons to a couple of quarts of fig jam makes a big difference in taste. Haven't tried the raspberry/fig jam my DW recently made, it's made with raspberry jello and is supposed to taste more like raspberry jam than fig. Once we open a jar I'll report on it. Today I am putting up another pan of moussaka, when will the eggplant give out please! Also harvesting okra every other day, slicing, freezing and then vac bagging for later use in gumbos, stews, and soups, occasionally tossed in cornmeal/flour mix and fried. Raining out today and heavily overcast. George Puester wrote: > > I just found some jars of fig jam I had made late last summer. I opened > one for breakfast and it was...OK. Fig jam additives?
My fig jam is delicious! You can add all kinds of additives likes: lemon
juice, lemon extract, orange juice, orange extract, Coconut extract, vanilla etc. cinnamon, cardamom, cloves or anything else that suits your fancy and taste. Much more rhuabr than figs (going by wieght) and not overdoing the sugar. I've posted the recipe on RFC. Have yet to taste it, though. But there are recipes online, so it seems to be a farily comomon thing to do. > gloria p |
