Default Review of Preserve Labels and Jars in the UK

Greetings fellow Preservers!

Being new to preserving and also being in the United Kingdom, I had to
spend quite some time hunting for suitable jars and labels for by
preserves. To save other "Jam-Newbies" from the same trawl, here is
what I settled with...

Jars
====

I found an excellent selection of very reasonably priced Jars of
various types at Ascott Smallholding Supplies Ltd -
http://www.ascott.biz/index.htm

Apparently one of the UK glassware suppliers had just gone into
liquidation, giving some resellers such as Lakeland a bit of a
headache restocking, but these guys had both sufficient stock and a
new supplier to carry on without interruption.

56 1lb jars with lids was £19, with larger sizes available. The full
range of Preserving Jars (Kilner Style) were also available. Delivery
was fast and cheap and the jars were very well packaged with no
breakages through the Royal Mail.

Recommended!

Labels
=====

Ah, labels! I Googled Jam labels and the same small selection of
overpriced and pretty unimaginative labels popped up again and again.
Then, after some looking I found Countryside Direct -
http://www.countryside-direct.com/index.htm

They have a large selection of labels in packs from 50 to 1000 in an
enormous range of styles, gummed or self ahesive, and even do a
printing service if you make a lot of one jar and need someone to
write them out for you. The designs are beautiful and really enhance
the appearance of your preserves. They were WELL worth the tiny price
they asked and were very promptly dispatched.

Highly Recommended! Buy some now!
