We're finally seeing a possibility of fall, morning temps in the low
fifties, heating up to low eighties by 3 pm. We've been picking the herbs on a twice a week basis and then dehydrating them, then sealing in vacuum bags for later use. This years crop of herbs is very large so looks like our kids, grands, neighbors and friends will get nice packages of Christmas herbs. Our fig and pear trees have grown a second crop of fruit, an anomaly we haven't seen before. There was an article in the paper about that anomaly throughout the Harris Cty, TX area. First time we've seen it but I am sure the late fruit will not mature but it was worth seeing it happen for the first time in my long life. Speaking of anomalies, Miz Anne and I will be married 56 years come December 26th and we dated for two years before that. And we still get along pretty good. <BSEG> I'm at a loss for a gift but will eventually find something for her. We've been married longer than our parents and grandparents and as far back as we can see. I will probably get her a plant of some kind as she really likes flowers, odd trees, etc. Me, I'm just happy being still alive, most of my male ancestors died young, Dad went at 71, grandad at 51, greatgrand at 21, etc. At 77 I have lived longer than most of my male ancestors, thank you modern medicine. Two heart attacks, four major strokes, 42 minor strokes, etc. We're happy living close to all our descendants, two children, five grandchildren, six great grandchildren and three of our grands haven't produced children yet. Who would have thought of that 56 years ago. We are truly blessed. Lots of kumquat jelly, marmalade, and syrup was made this year from a tree that is less than five feet tall. Plus lots of blackberries and dewberries were picked this year and made into jellies and jams. All picked alongside the highways and byways of Texas roads, all legal and covered by State law.
