canned tamale filling?

There is a large well-stocked Supermarket here in Denver Colorado
called "Avanza". Avanza appears to cater heavily to Hispanics.

It's just loaded with goodies.

I'm wondering.........is there such a thing as "canned" tamale filling?
If there is, I am sure that Avanza would have it.

Anyone have any experience with canned, or maybe even frozen tamale
filling, from a store?

I ate in a so called 4 Star Mexican restaurant in Tucson Arizona and was
shocked when they served canned vegies. I also thought the food was
terrible.

Sure, my last batch of tamales was made with one pound of frozen Zacky
Farms ground turkey. I bought the ground turkey and the chile colorado
sauce at a 99 Cents Only store...

I defrosted the ground turkey in the microwave, nuked it on high for
about five minutes, and stirred in 8-ounces of canned sauce...

Total cost for the meat and sauce was about $1.50 and I made the
equivalent of a dozen large tamales for about $2.00, when I count the
pre-mixed masa...

If I had bought a dozen commercially-prepared large tamales from a
supermarket, it would have cost me $20.00

I'm watching the shelves of the 99 Cents Only store for Argentinian
canned corned beef, now. I will wash off the brine and nuke the corned
beef to get rid of excess grease and I will shred the beef, mix it with
chile sauce and make some delicious shredded beef tamales...

Though most Norteamericanos tend to believe that tamales come in only
three varieties (beef, pork, and chicken) you put *anything* inside the
tamale you want...

We previously learned in this group that tamales made in Mexico were
filled with anything you can imagine, and some things you'd rather not
imagine...

I'm thinking about filling tamales with chunks of tender roast pork
covered with a chile sauce blended with honey, but I haven't seen any
of that canned pork in the 99 Cents Only store lately...

Here in Austin, there are many places that make tamales for Christmas,
uand some of them have apple/cinnamon,pork and raisins, pineapple, etc.
I had pork/raisin and they were great!

Hi there
Some years ago, a new product appeared in the Peruvian market. It was called
"Tamalina" a mix of species and corn powder (maybe semolina or polenta) and
you needed only add water and cook and "Listo!" the tamales were ready.
The idea was unsuccessful and was retired from the market. Maybe it was a
copy of a mexican product.

Enrique
