Well, I'm in trouble now.

Last month they opened a Vallarta Market in my area...........

Of course I had to visit the store during the opening celebration.

There is just something about a bag of FRESH tortillas that are still warm.

If you're looking for some interesting Mexican recipes go here

http://www.vallartasupermarket.com/

& click on recipes.

If you live in Southern California and have not visited one - enjoy

Nice website... Interesting that with as many stores as they have they
are only catering to the English Speaking audience on the web. The van
pickup service is a cool feature for older folks. Here is one of our
Mexican Grocery chains. They have both English and Spanish versions of
their page. http://www.myfoodcity.com/

Several years ago one of my daughters requested Mexican Food for her birthday.
Rather than fight the local supermarkets I boogied on down to the local Mexican
market "Tres Sierras". When I finished I started through the checkstand. Now
there is very little English spoken there. The clerk looked at me, looked at
the food, at me again, then at the food once more, she turned tm me as said
"Buenos Tardes" I answered que tal....

I guess stereotyping comes in all forms.

I understand, Dimitri. Your new store reminds me of when I was poor in
Santa Fe in the early '80s, and my top social event every two weeks
was to visit my favorite grocery store on the Saturday after payday.

I always timed it so I was there around noon so I could wander to
different departments and get enough samples to take care of lunch. My
favorite stop was the tortilleria, where they sold 100 corn tortillas
for 99 cents.

They also had very fresh sea food, which always impressed me. And they
had more than a generous amount of bison meat in the coolers.

Those probably are factors that led to their not being in business the
last time I visited Santa Fe. Sure was fun while it lasted, though.

I wasn't stereotyping at all. Our FoodCity markets are patronized by 90%
Spanish speaking customers and employees. By the looks of their fresh
produce Vallarta Market looks as if a majority of their customers would
be Spanish speaking. You would think that they would have written the
site in Spanish or at least bi-lingual.
