Default Honoring Our Traditions Through Recipes and Stories

We are a brand new website. You can find us at Mamig - the place for your kitchen conversations

I've always been interested in not only recipes but recipes that have been passed on from generation to generation and the stories and memories attached to the foods and the meals taken with family and friends. Especially with our immigrant backgrounds, there are many stories that go with the recipes. Our grandparents and even our parents may be gone but the stories remain. Every family had their own way of tweaking traditional recipes to make them their own and I find it interesting to see the similarities and the differences. Every submitted recipe on Mamig has a "Memories and Anecdotes" section.

Joining is free and the only information that we require is a valid email address. Everyone who joins has their own kitchen and they post their own recipes and stories. They can then have discussions with the guests in their kitchens and can even send and receive personal messages that no one else can view. We also want to honor those cooks (male or female) who are currently making their own traditions. We want to document and honor these new cooks and their signature dishes. You know..."Every Christmas we make our special Tamales (or whatever) recipe, the way we like to make it. Our Tamales are the best!" You get the idea.

Anyway, I invite you to visit Mamig - the place for your kitchen conversations and take a look around. There's an especially interesting story that goes with the recipe for Homemade Yogurt about how her great grandmother transported the starter halfway around the world 115 years ago, by ship, from the Middle East to France, then to her new home in America. If you go to About Us, it will tell a little more about what we're doing. Everyone came from somewhere and every family has some "treasures" from their kitchens. We also welcome recipes from the Native American culture as well as recipes from indigenous cultures of countries outside the U.S.

Come and join us in our kitchens!
