Learning to be a bartender

What's the best way to learn to be a bartender -- or at least learn
how to make mixed drinks?

Can anyone recommend a good bartender's school (in the SF Bay Area) or
a good book on bartending?

Thanks

if you chose a school be CAREFUL which school you chose. They're not the
same by a long shot! Do your homework. There are 3 schools in SF and a
couple out in the burbs. The one with the best reputation is SF School of
Bartending....they answer q's over the phone (the others won't.) and
actual working bartenders are the instructors.
Good luck.
