Default Restaurant Recommendation Needed

Group:

It's my brother-in-law's 40th birthday in a couple of weeks, and he and his
wife are visiting us here in LA for a long weekend from the cold haunts of
Vancouver, B.C.

He's a foodie, she's pregnant (I don't think that it's related!).

We're looking for a nice good quality / good food / pleasing service (no
insolence!) kinda restaurant to take them to in the West LA / Santa Monica /
Venice area. Due to their preferences we have excluded Asian and Mexican
cuisine. We're thinking in terms of French / Italian / American. We don't
want to break the bank (we've just bought our first house!), but it doesn't
have to be inexpensive.

Does the group have any recommendations for us?

TIA

Den

Y'know. Let the grey cells work on that one a bit and it's
a terrific double-entendre.

Gosh, I'm getting slow in my old age ... as hard as I try I *can't' make a
double entendre out of it. Enlighten me?

Best

My brother in law.
She's pregnant.
I don't think it's related.

What do you want? A list of chains? A recitation of top ten lists?

Chez Jay on Ocean Ave, Santa Monica, looks like a dump but the food is
great. Steaks and seafood.

Shane on Main St., also S.M. small dark and very friendly. There is some
asian food, the owner is from Phillipines.

La Vechia also on Main, lighter, brighter and very friendly. Pasta is great
here. Say hello to B.K one of the owners, he fosters a great vibe.

Stay out of Gov. Schwartz N grabbers "Schatzi" it really is bad.

oh this is too late....nevermind
