Change the lightbulb in the fridge!
 

For a long time I've been bugged about the Food TV shows that when the
host opens the fridge, the lightbulb is out!

I saw that again and I realized why, or so I think.

It's they don't want any brand name recognition on their shows. Something
to do with the sponsors? I rarely see a brand I recognize on ANY show.
Giadda did show a jar of dijon mustard once. Paula Dean doesn't even let
you get a glimpse into hers. Oh well.

Either that or the light goes on when the door closes, in their world.

Now I can get some sleep.

The shows go to great length to prevent brand lables from being shown.
Making shure bottles and jars are turned so the lable isin't showing
and such.
I would guess that the reason might be becaus the light comming on
might mess with the shows lighting.

Uh, I think you have it backwards. Usually product marketers pay to
have their label shown, not vice versa. If they show a label without
permission, though, there may be some negative connotation going on in
the program that the product makers don't like, and so they would make
a fuss or sue. It's really silly, but that sums up the U.S. legal
world.

It could be the refrigerator is not plugged in.
It is, after all, a studio set.

My refrigerator hasn't had a working bulb for
years, because water dripping down from the
freezer onto the bulb would crack it
if it was allowed to get too hot (for
example, during defrosting operations).

It may have to do with lighting issues.

Lighting on the set seems to be the main reason. A lit fridge probably
temporarily casts a moss green glow onto all that makeup. ;)

maybe it depends on the product as well as the show

That's an easy one.

It only takes one television chef to change a light bulb. They just hold it
still while the world revolves around them...

I have a successful workaround.
Don't defrost the fridge. I chip
away at the ice with a Victorian
rug stretcher from England I bought
on eBay. Very similar to this one:

There was a larger version
of the picture on this site,
but I can't find it now.
It's got stubby little teeth
at the end, and does a great
job chipping away the ice in
my freezer. Much better and
safer than a kitchen knife,
and the long handle saves me
from lots of scraped knuckles.

Hmmm. Its the same when the host takes something "hot" out of the
oven... how many times have you seen he/she use oven mitts???

In my more youthful days I'd keep a hundred watt bulb in my fridge...
just so I could enjoy the view when a gal in her sheer nighty was bent
over rummaging my fridge... naturally I'd keep all the good stuff at
the back of the bottom shelf.
