When I worked at the steel shop, which was before the illegal alien crack down about 20 years ago, I would sometimes have to go to the Mexican employee's houses to do work for them (on their cars, etc.). There would be 15-20 people living in the most horrid conditions and small "shacks". They would be paying at least ten times what it was worth. I told them that they should demand that the landlord fix all the things that didn't work; that there were laws covering that. They would then inform me that, since they were all illegal, they could say nothing about the conditions or the ridiculously high rent. Well, some would routinely get themselves deported when they needed a free ride to Mexico. They would work about 9 months, send most of their money to Mexico, then disappear for about 3 months, only to reappear after that. Since they were already trained and knew their jobs, they would put them back to work. I live in South Texas, just a couple of hours away from Mexico. There is a house just 3 doors down from me that is over 60 years old, has no central air or heat, has a collapsing roof and I'm told by someone that has been IN the house that the floor is collapsing too. The living conditions are less than ideal It is lived in by a family of 10 mexicans, including young children. The older adults all have rotting teeth... It is cheap rent.
