Even gas station convenience stores carry frozen OJ concentrate. If you attempt to reduce regular OJ you will no longer have something that tastes like OJ. Sheldon |

Simmer it to concentrate it? ....tia....Sharon more than you ever wanted to know about orange juice from concentrate. ---> http://tinyurl.com/qtgvg an exerpt ---> The finished food is of such concentration that when diluted according to label directions the diluted article will contain not less than 11.8 percent by weight of orange juice soluble solids, exclusive of the solids of any added optional sweetening ingredients. The dilution ratio shall be not less than 3 plus 1. For the purposes of this section and §146.150, the term "dilution ratio" means the whole number of volumes of water per volume of frozen concentrate required to produce orange juice from concentrate having orange juice soluble solids of not less than 11.8 percent by weight exclusive of the solids of any added optional sweetening ingredients |

I used reg oj with lots of pulp. It turned out ok. DH liked it, but it should have had a more intense orange taste. If I had used oj in the rice instead of water it would have been better too. I'll be sure to get the frozen concentrate before I do it again. ....Sharon |

After that, whatever adaptations you discover are up to you. I also agree with another poster who suggested orange zest might have helped to increase the taste up to the frozen concentrate flavour Jill |

I didn't have any oranges, but I do have some dried orange peel (grated) from the bulk food store. I didn't even think about that when I was cooking. I'll keep all these things in mind when I make it again. It was a hit just as it was, but I think it could have had more orange flavour. .....Sharon |

Next time you'll remember the dried grated peel if you don't have frozen concentrated OJ on hand! In fact, since you have that, and apparently you keep orange juice around for drinking, it might be the better (more economical) way to go next time. I'm not sure what quantity of the dried grated peel to use but I'd start with a 1/4 tsp. and work my way up (tasting as you go). Jill |
