Agreed, and the same can be said of assertions made on television and
radio and in books, newspapers, magazines, etc. But if authority is
cited, you can at least try to evaluate the credibility, credentials
and reputation of that authority and measure it against the same for
contrary authority. Of course, that could be difficult for subjects
well outside one's knowledge, education or experience.

Okay, so now I have the song, "Charlie Brown" kicking around in my
head.

Have you been living in a CAVE? LOL! Before I got my meds dialed in,
I went completely berserk, too often for my tastes. I don't
over-react nearly as often anymore, but sometimes ....

>Sure, many of us get fed up and leave Usenet for a while, but

I'm guilty of that, too. But I actually leave and don't monitor the
group after I'm gone. I'm uncomfortable when people write and ask me
to stay. I don't want attention. I just want to be left alone. So I
guess there could be a difference in motivation.

It's not always easy to walk a mile in someone else's head, so I try
to give the benefit of the doubt on something like this. I wasn't
always this nice, BTW.

In the past, Patches has usually calmed down within a day or two.
Let's see what happens this time.

Peace,
Carol

But there's nothing wrong with people showing others a bit of general
respect. There's no need for anyone to be rude or nasty, even on a busy
street corner. Everyone gets angry or annoyed sometimes, but there's no
need to continually attack someone, it's just common curtesy.

In general I agree with your sentiments - but the fact is that people
have different levels of "skin thickness." What to me is just an
accurate and straightforward statement of my position is to others a
personal attack. I (and others I am sure) don't have the talent or
interest to coat every disagreement with sugar and honey just to spare
some insecure person's feelings. There's no intent to offend, but
offense is still sometimes taken.

I've learned that you can't count on anything. I retired early at 47.
After an unexpected "reversal of fortune" 9 years later, I was forced back
into the workforce and will probably remain there until I am either unable
to work or die. One never knows.

Still, life is good!

No, remember him for the "Most Obscure Cooking Tool?" thread last November,
where he said he knew what Andy's "mystery tool" was,

No, no, no!!!

Lemon, then salt, then hot chile pepper!

That's how they serve the mangos down at the soccer field 1/2 block from
my house. They spray on the lemon juice from a bottle, then sprinkle
salt and then hot chile pepper. They put them on a stick and peel them
first. Last they wrap a napkin around the stick so the sticky juices
don't drip (so much) on your fingers.

Um, good.

So what? I have a little trick that I use in my mind when something
sounds a little weird. I try to think what is like that.

There is all sorts of salad dressing that has a lot of sugar in it. I
have a bottle of Kraft Catalina in front of me right now. A serving is
2 tablespoons, and that has 9g of sugar in it! The #1 ingredient is
sugar (high fructose corn syrup).

Besides, as a kid, my mother *always* put sugar in the salad. She
didn't use a bottled dressing, and added a sprinkle of sugar when she
added the vinegar.

But no one's being forced to read her posts or even believe in them. She
could just make up a lot of lies if she wants to. It's the readers decision
to read them. But that doesn't give them the right to ridicule them.

I've had her KFed since her original snit-fit shortly after
appearing, but I saw the exchange in the reply posts.

I think you're wrong in lecturing people about how she should
have been treated. No one ridiculed anything, they just didn't
agree. They asked her where she got her information, which caused
her to go into another meltdown and disappear with the usual
flourish.

This is not the right place for someone like that.. for obvious
reasons.

This is a great device for practicing (rather than just advocating)
tolerance. I love it.

I'm new here, and I've felt welcomed and listened to from day one.
Just offering a contrary datapoint.

Squeeks, I remembered. It was you I forgot.

Miche wasn't in my memory banks at all...

That is a perpetual problem. Perhaps it's time to round up the stud
muffins and propagate the species?

Ever tried the mortadella (bolognese name for what is called
"bologna") from Pasquini & Trusiani, in Bologna? They're the top
in the business, theyrs is the one and only mortadella worth the
name, other italian brands are or industrial or bad producers or
both. Unluckily these two boys from Bologna are in theyr
seventies now, let's hope someone carries on theyr traditional
workshop.

BTW - the best wine match with mortadella is champagne, after
that there's just lambrusco ;)
