Default We're Ba-ack! (sorta)

Crash got a barebones system for me, and we're sharing that until his
is returned (he had sent it back for repairs). Therefore, I'll be
using Google until I have my own hard drive in this computer (Crash
inadvertently left my HD in the computer that he sent back). So, I
won't be posting a lot right away.

What's with all these hostile newbies? This NG is looking pretty toxic
right about now.

News on the health front (there's always something). As long as Crash
and I have been together, I've been beating the snot out of him in my
sleep. Screaming, swearing, punching, kicking, you name it. Finally
found out what it is. REM Sleep Behavior Disorder. What it boils down
to is that I physically act out my (usually violent) dreams. (Google
it)

Very rare condition, usually suffered by middle aged and elderly males.
Most of the articles I've read online mention Parkinson's in relation
to this other thing. I've intentionally not read about that.

Crash also reports me laughing boisterously for long periods of time
for no discernable reason. I have awakened twice while turning the
pages of a non-existent book. Crash says I also do a lot of writing in
the air at night.

So now we know what it is. Too bad we can't get rid of the violence
and keep the comical stuff. LOL! One of the treatments for this
disorder is a small dose of Klonopin. I'm already taking the stuff,
but now I'm bringing it up to the suggested dose at night. We'll just
have to see what happens. At this point, my shrink has told me that
this disorder is physiologically impossible. I think he's got some
reading to do.

I think that pretty much brings us up to date. Good to see some
smiling faces!

Peace,
Carol

Dams,

Welcome back! The level of posting will go back to normal now that
you're on line again. Pay no mind to the crossposting trolls. Some
people will do anything to get attention.

I have never heard of REM sleep behavior disorder. SO should be
thankful that I snore rather than whup on him.

I used to giggle in my sleep. At least from the time I was a teenager, maybe
earlier. I never knew I did it, but my parents would tell me. My DH
confirmed that I'd laugh while I was sleeping. One night I was laughing so
hard, I woke myself up, and once awake, I remembered laughing, but didn't
know what I was laughing about, and that was funny, so I was laughing
harder. Eventually, DH woke up, heard my muffled gasps (from trying not to
wake him) and thought I was crying. So he said, "Oh, what's wrong, honey?"
all sympathetic, and that really set me off. I couldn't stop laughing, and
certainly couldn't explain what was funny. It was a very odd night.

I talk all the time in my sleep, and sometimes have enough awareness to
hear myself. I also often use my hands doing something (can't recall
anything specific right now), and sometimes have awareness of that. David
has had "conversations" with me while I'm sleeping, but he says they don't
always make sense. Well, sometimes I don't make sense when I'm awake,
either. :-)

Yipes, Dams. Didja go to a sleep lab to figure all this out?

I guess I can't complain that much about DH's snoring now (well, I can I
guess) It's REALLY annoying! ;-)

Glad to see you back.

Didn't have to. We have anecdotal evidence dating back over ten years.
I could never go to a sleep lab. Once I remembered having a dream
about rowing a boat (I usually have no memory of the dreams that I act
out). Crash asked me why I kept elbowing him all night. I wasn't
elbowing him ... I was rowing a boat! <G>

I have trouble leaving the house for appointments and shopping. I'd be
a complete wreck in a sleep lab.

I hear ya. My ex sounded like a water buffalo in heat when he snored.

I cracked a couple of Crash's ribs one night. Poor guy. When I start
flailing, he protects the dogs and cat first, then looks out for his
own safety. Hopefully, we'll get this thing under control. (crosses
fingers, toes, and eyes)

Thanks, Denise, to you and everyone else who has welcomed me back.

Hi, Damsel,

Here's a Chuckle of the Day you probably missed I picked out just for you
two.

Subject: Chuckle of the Day (2-15-2006)

TFM® is an extremely restless sleeper, too. I'm surprised I don't have
black eyes. He acts out his work in his dreams, so he hammers and nails all
night.

Good to see you back. I saw Crash in the chat room the other night,
and figured something was up on the 'puter front.

D had a roommate in college who acted out her dreams. Her name was
Carol, too. Connection?

Wow, I wish we could somehow record your REM prose. Or is it poetry?
The aesthetic possibilities are enough to make a Surrealist drool with
envy. And even though I'm not a Surrealist, I must confess to more
than a little interest, myself. Once in college, I awoke after the
last sentence of a dreamed essay on the impossibility of an ideal
language. Apart from finding it very convincing, all I could remember
was the last sentence.

I don't mean to make light of the situation, though. And I hope you
can find some degree of symptomatic relief.

OBFood: I have chicken wings in the oven for snacks for a happy hour
we're attending tonight. I have to cook them this morning because
I'll be working right up to party time this evening.

So what's the big deal with that? I do it all the time.
Oh, wait - you meant YOU were doing it while asleep.

Like Bob Myers, I'm prone to laughing boisterously for no apparent reason,
but only when I'm awake. But my ex-girlfriend has Restless Leg Syndrome and
bruxism, and she takes Klonopin for both of those, so it makes sense that
Klonopin would work for what YOU have, which I'm going to call Pugilist
Sleep Syndrome. (Of course, if *I* punched and kicked in my sleep, I'd be
accused of feigning this disorder so that I could use it as an excuse to
pummel my girlfriend.)

I researched it after you posted this. Unfortunately, it's
contraindicated for me because of other conditions I have and
medications I take. (

Thanks for the recommendation. Never hurts to have information!
