hmm, I don't know about nice, but try to get over to Bongo Java for a coffee
if you have a chance. Had you been a week earlier you could have seen the Nun
Bun but it seems someone broke in and stole it a couple days ago. sad.

We will be in Nashville for New Year's evening and day. I'm looking for
a couple of nice restaurants, mid scale as in not having to wear tuxes
or evening gowns but nice semi-formal or just dressy type clothes. I
want good regional food with nice atmosphere and good service. I'm
also looking for a nice restaurant with a great breakfast. We were
thinking of doing the river boat ride excursion that included dinner and
entertainment so if anyone has any feedback on this, I would really
appreciate it. AFAIK we are leaving sometime tomorrow. I woking on
having internet access while we are gone but it won't be a high
priority. TIA

Not much help given the short notice and being new to their ng, is it.
I thought someone here might have been able to help answer my questions.
Thanks anyway.

For a quicker answer, go to Chowhound. I have found them to be very
reliable, and usually pretty fast with a reply.

Try this chowhound board:

I've posted your post (slightly re-written) to rec.food.restaurants -
will see if there's a reply in time to help you. Maybe. Maybe not.
Wouldn't know if it weren't tried.

Here's a reply from rec.food.restaurants to your inquiry:
"At the late date, I would doubt that anything will be available short
of White Castle.

But you might want to try....Houston's, The Cooker, Ruth's Chris, The
Stockyard or the Opryland Hotel."

I know Ruth's Chris is a chain; I don't know anything about the others.

I live in Nashville and the Bongo Java is about 6 blocks from me, but
I've never been there. Oh well. If I'm not mistaken The Cooker is
closed, could be wrong, though as I've only eaten there once. The
Loveless Motel has excellent biscuits, gravy, etc.!! The Barn Dinner
Theater has an excellent buffet and you get to see a play, too. It's
been a while since I've eaten at the Spaghetti Factory downtown, but
when I did it was good. When I go out with my brother many times we
eat at the Cracker Barrel or one of the 1000's of "meat and three"
around town.

If I were the OP, I wouldn't want to eat in a chain. I'd want something
a little more local. No, a lot more local. :-) Best walleye I've ever
eaten, though, was at a Cracker Barrel. Weird. Spaghetti Factory?
That's a chain, too. OK, but not what I'd want - again, I'd want a
not-chain place. Don't know what the OP wants.

To address the OP: Somebody on chowhound.com put forth a very similar
question on December 21. You can peruse the replies at
