Hi there -- I haven't seen you post to rec.food.cooking before (admittedly, I don't read even close to every post, but that's a completely different matter ), but I notice you're posting from WebTV and may have fallen into a rather common trap of not knowing where you've actually ended up. . In my ongoing attempts to help WebTVers make a smooth transition to Usenet -- which is not part of WebTV or MSN -- I'd like to provide you with a few links to articles which will provide you with the tools to survive in this new-to-you arena called Usenet (also occasionally referred to as "the shark tank"). In an ideal world, WebTV would do this for you, but apparently they can't be bothered. Pity, that. Anyway: http://web.archive.org/web/200308022...com/webtv.html -- explaining the difference between Usenet and WebTV, and detailing how to quote using your WebTV interface. http://www.ibiblio.org/usenet-i/usenet-help.html -- Usenet Help --comprehensive http://www.netmeister.org/news/learn2quote.html -- How to quote correctly on Usenet (how and why) -- also comprehensive And you should know that spelling and grammar (including punctuation) count on Usenet. You don't have to be perfect, but the onus is on *you* to communicate clearly. Good luck. -j |

I'm assuming that "discuss" refers to one of the WebTV's alt.discuss.* groups and that "Cooking" refers to rec.food.cooking, a Usenet newsgroup (this one). To access it with WebTV, use groups.google at <http://groups.google.com/group/rec.food.cooking>. Victor |

Thank you. I'm a big fan of education versus attack and/or humiliation. There's plenty of time to snark at people if and when they prove themselves to be willfully stupid, although I find myself less and less willing to do so -- exercising some self-restraint or, in lieu of self-restraint, a good killfile can make Usenet a more pleasant place (must be getting soft in my middle-age ). Please feel free to use the text whenever and wherever you think it's appropriate. -j |

Hee-e-e-ey-y, *I'm* nice to the WebTV innocents, too. (Your usenet days number a lot or the responses number a lot? "-) -- -Barb, <http://www.jamlady.eboard.com> Updated 9-26-05 |
