Default Official announcement...

Okay, guess from one of the other threads, I need to officially announce
this... Thought everyone had figured it out, apologies!

For a number of reasons, some personal, I'm changing my usenet screen
name pretty much for good.

Om used to be Katra.

Cheers! :-) (and no more spam link to my ebay auctions except on
Austin.forsale)

I love you, Nancy <G>. Seriously, I only changed my name here after
telling everybody I was going to do it - it was sort of a mental
catharsis for me, as I was trying to clean my act up. (Bad grammer, I
know). I had a few backslides, but it's getting easier all the time
to act like a civil human. I'd been really sick and off on short-term
disability for several months, lots of unknowns looming ahead, and it
got the best of of me temporarily. I've been on lots of wicked meds
and have acted like a fool even fairly recently. I'm now back working
half-days for a few weeks and, God willing, I'll back to the normal
insane routine shortly. I got into some seriously foul posts with
Sheldon, and it was a really awful thing that I shouldn't have done.
I mean, come on, Sheldon is Sheldon, I've read his posts for years, I
ALWAYS read his posts, even when I don't answer and he's just part of
the life and color of RFC. He's allright, just like anybody else here
that I happen to not agree with sometimes. RFC is like a family
Thanksgiving out of town gathering. Someone is bound to get drunk,
someone is bound to get hell beat out of them. That doesn't mean ya
don't go back next year. Free entertainment is just a bonus.

That's me (ya jerk) <G>. Now wait a minute. Are you sayig that
you're Katra? I don't have a problem with it, of course, but I
thought that both ID's had been posting at the same time. Actually,
I've always wanted to ask how you came up with such an unusual posting
name. It's really different.

I don't know OMPO's reasoning, but I did it to go into hiding because
the NSA satellites are trying to penetrate my aluminum-foil hat with
thought-control rays. Scary, isn't it? Seriously, I'll tell you
what's really scary - I occasionally visit other groups where some
nutcase is actually posting this crap for real, along with the names,
phone numbers and addresses of people he believes to be NSA agentts
who have impanted a mind-control device in his brain. And they're not
nut-case groups, he has just chosen to post his bizzare stuff there.
Never underestimate the dangerous, illogical human mind <G>.

Aw, c'mon guys (girls). I've been a big enough jerk in recent months
without worrying about past years. I swear, I'm working on it really
hard. All it took was 50 visits to a psych and 30 shock treatments
(kidding - I'm just kidding). Although, seriously, I have been off
for some months on disability with a life-threatening illness - the
future is unsure, but I'm back to the insane schedule part-time and
all I can do is thank God for each day and just move on and do what I
can. Everybody has their problems, and I'm not special - just buck it
up and appreciate what you have, that's my opinion. If I live, I do
what I can to make things better. If I don't, a handfull of people
will miss me for a while and the world will go on, as always. That's
just the way life is, no big deal. Never over-estimate your
importance, but never under-estimate the effect you can have on a few
lives if you really try.

Hey, Goomba. I am "somewhat" offended by your "drama" comment, but
not really too much. I responded to an OT post with an OT comment and
you're certainly more than welcome to do the same, so I can't be TOO
offended <G>. I assume that means that either you're an incredibly
strong person, or you've been lucky enough that nothing really bad has
ever happened to you, or if it has you've been able to recover quite
well. IN any case, if any of the above is true, then I'm very happy
for you. Seriously. I always thought I was a strong person but after
20 years of unrelenting pain due to injuries from a car accident and
now the other stuff, I sometimes find myself running out of strength.
Yeah, I know, it makes you feel like a p***y but the body and mind can
only handle so much. Before I was Alley, I was "TheAlligator", and I
announced the change in great detail in RFC before I did it. It's not
like I'm trying to hide. Well, maybe sometimes I SHOULD try to hide
<G>. Best to ya.

Yeah, you mentioned that you were sick, I am hoping you're
getting well. Best of luck.

Hey Alley, Alligator (whatever) I doubt if you're really/even somewhat
offended - and not everyone has something bad happen to them ( that's
really good!).

"snipping stuff"

> 20 years of unrelenting pain due to injuries from a car accident and now

20 years of pain sounds horrible. lately I've had different kind of pain -
emotionally draining, but maybe not as bad as physical pain........

Life sucks sometimes, congrats. for still being around............it's
amazing what the body and mind can do. You probably kow!

Thanks, Nancy. I guess the "I love you" comment wasn't really that
far off base. All the best to ya, and thanks.

I changed mine for a few reasons:

1. An obnoxious spammer was using the same nick (Bob) that I was using, and
I wanted my posts to be clearly distinguishable from its posts.

2. If I search Google for past posts, it's a lot easier to winnow down "Bob
Terwilliger" rather than just plain "Bob", which returns everything from
notbob, zxcvbob, Bob Pastorio, Bob Myers, and all the other Bobs who help
make this NG the vibrant, interesting community it is.

3. Similarly, if I search my own archives, it's a lot easier to find a "Bob
Terwilliger" post than one of the myriad "Bob" posts.

Some people "morph" from time to time, like Hahabogus becomeing Monseur
Fromage (or however he spells it!).

The reasons for changing names run from the simple to the complex.

Good reason...

There are also at least 7 other "Katra's" on the internet.

I don't think there are any other OmManiPadmeOmelet's out there. ;-)

Whatever made you dream up this name? :-)

Heh, I never understood "Hahabogus", much less "Mr. Cheese Chicken".

I've lost 50 lbs. since January.

They are shrinking.

Looky here. Maybe this will help:

http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&i...+mani+padme+om

It's a sacred buddhist meditation chant. Changing the last phrase to
"omelet" is irreverent. I've been suffering from severe depression for
nearly 3 years since my soul mate died. Thru meditation and "herbal"
therapy, I've managed to finally come to terms with the loss and have
been in the process of turning my life around over the past several
months to include weight loss, exercise, re-learning how to want to
"live" again. It's been a rough 3 years. I'm still nowhere near done
yet, but life is better.

I think the process may have hightened my sense of the divine versus the
rediculous, so this seems to be where it took me.

I hope this helps understand why I find it amusing? ;-)

Cheers!

I had no idea you had been going through so much, and I'm so sorry you've
had to, but I'm very glad to know that things are turning around for you.
Life is hard and loss is harder, and it's often difficult to pick up the
pieces and put things back together.

So many different things can help us find our way. Whatever works best for
each of us is what we each need.

You're a very talented and lovely person and things can't help but keep
getting better. Take good care of yourself!

Yes, it does.

Thank you. :-)
I don't talk (or whine) about it much anymore, we all have our trials in
life so I'm aware I'm not alone. So much tragedy in everyones lives, one
has to concentrate more on the joys. I have a lot of good memories so I
try to focus more on those and not the last 6 months of (miserable) life
that my soulmate had. The end was not pretty... but at least they knew
that they were loved and cherished so I have few regrets.

It can be a rough path. Not everyone finds there way back so I feel
lucky.

You are sweet, thank you!

Geez, Om, here I am goofing around about your morph and
you're in all that pain, I'm so very sorry. I hope things are getting
better for you. (hug)

Yeah, but THIS Katra was well-known to us here <G>. Did you mention
what the new nick is going to be, or did I miss that?

I'm very sorry to hear about all that you've been through. But
congrats on all the progress you're making and all the hard work and
effort. No matter how dark the day seems when you awake, NEVER give
up - never. Something good, however small, is bound to happen that
day and you don't want to miss it. If ya don't mind, I'll keep you in
my own prayers, unless you find that offensive. (Wouldn't matter, I'd
just lie and keep praying for you anyway <G>).
