Default Bloody mary mix?

I usually just wing it. But for tailgating I'd usually get a
good mix out of a jar. I forget the name of the brand
and I don't want to go running around looking for it.

So, I'm making my own. V8, Worchestershire, Tabasco,
pepper, sometimes celery seed, but it annoys me. Of
course, some nice celery stalks, if I can find any nice ones.
Celery has been nasty this year.

Anyway, anything good I'm missing?

salt for the rim?...

pickled whole green beans or pickled asparagus spears works fine instead of
celery.

Celery salt, rather than celery seed (who wants *seeds* in their drink?).
If you can't find a good mix (Texas Redeye is good down this way and comes
in a variety from pretty much plain tomato juice to HOT) I'd use the V-8
regular and the V-8 Spicy. Let people pick and choose whether they want to
add more hot sauce. Lots of people swear by clam juice. Why clam juice
came into the picture I don't know. I adore clam soup but not with tomatoes
and certainly not in my bloody mary's!

Additional garnishes- wedges of fresh limes.

Wasabi!!!

Get some good paste (or make your own from powder is better) stir that in to mix
it well. A powerful zing to the BM!! Can add a teaspoon of prepared horseradish
as well for a combined flavour Wasabi/Horseradish

lemon or lime
drop the V8 - go with regular.
Celery salt not seed.
I like a shot (tablespoon) of Cocktail sauce or horseradish.
Tabasco
Worcestershire
Vodka
Ice

since I usually use V8, it's already so salty ... but then so is tomato
juice,

You're missing lemon juice. We prefer tomato juice to V-8 to avoid
that nasty carrot juice, but that's just personal preference. If we
can hide it in a big pitcher we sometimes but in several stalks of
parsley. Horseradish, wasabi, etc. are best available for individual
choice. The big unknown is whether these are simply brunch Bloody
Marys or the more critical medicinal morning after marys. The latter
need more black pepper and more salt. -aem

This weekend I had a house guest who likes Bloody Marys. I was SHOCKED at
how much the mix is (Mr. & Mrs. T?), it's just tomato juice all dolled up...

Anyways I bought V- 8 and basically did yer recipe. I had some leftover soy
sauce and some wasabi from a previous sushi meal, so I added that. Oh, and
I had some limes so I also put some lime juice in...

The verdict was "very tasty!"...I garnished with a big skewer of black
olives, shrimp, pickled artichoke hearts, Swiss cheeze, and little cornichon
pickles, not too shabby.

THE secret to a good bloody mary - no matter what your basic recipe
- is FRESH lime juice. Fresh lemon may do in a pinch.

35 years ago I used to buy Mr. & Mrs. T until I wised up and realized I
could make a better bloody mary from scratch.>

But they make those little tiny TV's that fit in your pocket! Wasabi has no
place in a bloody mary, in my opinion. Ask your step-mom; she's Japanese,
she'll tell you. This would be like putting ground dried peas in your saki.

Have you ever tried that?? It's horrible! I bought a
bunch of cans of it (must have been Costco, all I can
think) never having tried it ... took me months before
I admitted the error of my ways and ditched it.

take tomato juice instead, either way. Whatever I can get in

(laugh) These are for hanging out by the car waiting for the game to
start while eating various mismatched foods, from cookies to stromboli
to cheese and crackers to ... all in no particular order. Oh! that reminds
me, I should make some potato salad.

(smile) The first tailgate of the season is always the most fun. As the
season goes on it's more like ... just grab a sub from Joyce's and let's go.

Hey, I wasn't the one complaining about V-8 being salty. (laughing) And
it's just a sprinkle of celery salt! My father bought my mom two CASES of
low-sodium Campbell's soup - one was chicken noodle, the other chicken &
rice. He was trying to be helpful. She said, "Jill, this stuff is awful!
Do you want it?" Sure, Mom, I love awful stuff!

Reminds me of a comedian, I don't remember his name now, who said, Why do
people say things like, "Ewww! This milk is spoiled. Here, taste it." LOL

Commercial tomato juice tends to be too salty for my tastes. Last year
I made my first batch of homemade tomato juice. In homecanning the salt
can be omitted in most recipes so I omit it. I was so pleased with the
resulting tomato juice, I'm going to make double the amount of it this year.

They're called *Caesar* and I like mine extra spicy with large olives on
a stick rather than celery. A dill pickle quarter is nice too.

I can't attest to your mom's observations on the low-sodium soup but
from experience any product that says low-fat, low-sodium, sugar-free,
or no-fat generally tastes like crap. I think it is because your taste
buds are accustomed to the higher levels of these ingredients so rebell
when introduced to lower levels. One problem we noticed when going to
lower sodium about 18 years ago was things tasted somewhat bland. That
was back when I bought commercially prepared soups and canned vegetables
for those vegetables I didn't freeze. Even frozen vegetables have some
amount of sodium in them. The problem wasn't in the foods I prepared at
home because even then I seldom added salt when cooking. The salt was
at the table if someone wanted it. That's only because we had acquired
a taste for higher commercially prepared sodium laden foods. Now we
experience the opposite effect. We find many commercially prepared
foods taste way too salty.

Now I can and freeze most of our vegetables and use no salt. We have
learned to use other herbs and spices to enhance the flavour if necessary.

That's right up there with "oh does this ever look gross, come see". It
must just be human nature to share these types of things. Body

Um. I don't need anyone to help me go to the bathroom (yet) and I don't
understand the entire thing about women going in groups, unless perhaps they
want to engage in locker-room type talk about you guys

We can see the humour in a well delivered fart, but to say that we double
over is a gross exaggeration. But we still wonder how it is that, if men
are more into sharing bodily functions, it is women who go to the washroom
in packs.

Oh that's easy. Women go to the washroom in packs to:
- catch-up on gossip
- gossip about those women out there who really shouldn't wear what they
are wearing
- make sure everything is tucked in and straight including the make-up
- complain about their DH or SO
- make sure the washroom is actually clean - you need witnesses if you
need to complain about this one
- count their money
- call their kids
- discuss religion and/or politics
- discuss the newest fashion fads

Note what is missing? We don't share bodily functions. Heck most of us
can't even **** if there is another women within a 1 mile radius! We
spend more time washing icky cooties off our hands than we ever do
*actually* relieving ourselves. That's best left to at home and one of
the reasons not to drink 12 beers while out

Not to mention taking the gossips with them so that they won't be the topic of
the gossip :-)

I had once had a part time job mopping up a restaurant on weekends. I know what
slobs women are in public washrooms. The ladies room was always infinitely
worse than the men room. They don't complain to the management, they just
through their garbage on the floor, including no longer sanitary napkins.

Baloney. Women have conversations. At an outdoor party I have seen four women
carry on their conversation as they walked over to the shadows and then dropped
their drawers, squatted and peed, and not even a pause in the conversation.
