A very sad loss. I loved him as Maynard G. Krebs in the "The Many Loves of
Dobie Gillis". I never liked or watched "Gilligan's Island", although it was
the show I disliked, not Denver's acting in it.

That's sad. He was a mighty sailin' man, you know.

Absolutely hated the show but sorry to hear of the man's death. I,
too, first remember him as Maynard G. Krebs.

Interestingly, today on Turner Classic Movies they played the 1953 _Dobie
Gillis_ movie (this did not star Denver, but a young Debbie Reynolds among
others)...

The character that played Zelda on the teevee show came out as a *******
back in the 90's and is now IIRC a member of the California state
legislature, she is very active in *** rights issues.

When I was 5, I wanted to be a beatnik just like him, only without the

Oh, come on now, Maxine... Why wouldn't you want the beard and mustache?
You could have had a sideshow job anywhere! :-)
