Any word on who's responsible yet? The news here in the states is
spotty and I can't get to the BBC UK site.

No - way things are, and this looking like it was targeted to coincide with
the G8 summit, frankly, could be almost *anyone*...

Yeah, it's heavily loaded down - try this direct link - just worked for me:

strange as it may seem I've been getting updates through the
singletrackworld forum, there are a few people who are in the midst of
it, as well as a few ******s spouting all kinds of crap.

A "jihad cell" of Al-Qaeda has claimed responsibility.

A tip for next time: go to http://news.google.com; go to the bottom,
click on the UK edition.

I guess my google page was missing a line... so I typed UK Edition
into the search box and got http://news.bbc.co.uk/

That's awful news! The mindset of bombers is one that eludes me.

Aye, London's not a happy place at the moment. Pretty much the only
sounds are sirens and helicopters.

As far as I can tell, all my family and friends are ok. I've had a fair
few concerned phone calls and e-mails, as I normally work out of an
office round the corner from Moorgate (scene of one of the blasts).
However, I'm working out of our other office today.

Anyway, **** 'em. We've been through worse, we'll come through this.

good stuff, must be horrible waiting to hear from people.

Exactly, what these terrorists really want is to have a lasting effect
on behaviour and have everybody living in fear, but thats easy enough
for me to say from the safety of Lancashire.
Hope this is over soon enough bomba, you going to be stuck in the
office overnight?

The police are letting us leave our buildings now and London Bridge
station is open, so I should be able to get home. Contingency plan of
catching one of the boats down to Greenwich, and in worst case scenario
a six mile walk.

It'll be uncomfortable and probably take an age, but in comparison to
what others are going through, I'll just count myself lucky.

Glad to hear it. I'd be wary of getting on anything resembling a tube

Thoughts and prayers to everyone across the pond. Having your country
attacked by soulless degenerates is never an easy thing. We know it all
too well.

Good luck and god speed to you, your friends, and family.

Well said. Terrorism gains its superiority when it victims fold into a
whimpering, fetal position and capitulate as did the Spaniards when a
similar act occurred on their soil.

As to who's responsible (as asked mitchellNOSPAM) how can that even be in
doubt.

My deepest condolences go out to the victims' families; and my strong
support goes out to the British people that they be strengthened by this
rather than weakened.

What I really hope is that any strengthening includes an improvement of
our leaders' wisdom, not just their desire to take military action. True
strength comes from wisdom, not acts of violence.

Where did you come up with that simplistic ideology? Terrorism is evil and
violent. And while wisdom is a marvelous virtue, it (wisdom) without the
military wherewithal to make its voice heard is impotent. Nothing short of
military strength/action against the violence of terrorism will combat it.

Wisdom is born of experience. Your leader(s) and mine have shown exemplary
wisdom and strength in dealing with Islamic terrorists. It's time we the
people get behind them in support rather than babbling aimlessly with
pacifist platitudes and touchy-feely statements that have no value in truth.

We sure will, but in these times, the world doesn't need it's fear buttons
pressing any more - scared peoples, do stupid things, and even more
*innocent* lives get wiped out...

Kath has some family in the city, but they are away from the centre, some
out of the country too.

Cheers Jon - stay safe mate.

Wow. Stay safe everyone. Truly a sad day. As much as I hope it won't
happen, I imagine this will continue to spiral into more ugliness and
suffering.

Glad you guys are OK. I wonder how my other London friends are fairing...

Indeed, but it doesn't stop us from hoping otherwise, and living our lives

Hi Carol, you're welcome.

And no, not good at all, and the news is reporting it worse and worse each
time - last I heard 'Dozens thought to be dead' when only minutes before it
was 'maybe up to 20'.

This is ****ed up ;-(

CNN just reported only 4 bombs and not 6 with 10 known dead with dozens
injured. Sounds like Madrid 11 March. :-(

Yeah, the info is coming in and being updated constantly, of course, seems a
lot are scared of speculating/being accused of such, so are awaiting the go

I am deeply sorry about this terrible thing. Perhaps now someone can
explain to me what problem is with the people protesting G8.

I'm very sorry this happened. No shortage of cowards in this world,

I'm sorry, it's come to my attention it was a terrorist attack from
some arab (?) group, not the G8 protesters. They are also
threatening Italy and Denmark.

They are still protesting the G8 I would think, and *likely for the right
reasons*, but in the most wrong way possible...

Thanks Nancy,

The G8 protesters are not behind this bombing. The culprits of the
bombing are Al Qaeda, according to what I heard. I am no expert, but I
believe the Al Qaeda are ****ed off because of what they view as the
incursion of westerner infidels into Iraq and Saudi Arabia (which they
view as holy ground).

Hi Stan ... you have to read the whole thread, this was posted as the
news was still breaking. I know now that it wasn't the G8 protesters.

This really sucks. I just read it and am about to turn on CNN. Carol, email
me at dog30 at charter dot net. I had to rebuild my machine and lost my
mailbox.

A coworker of mine offered this "solution": For each bomb which goes off in
a Western nation, let's detonate one in Mecca.

You cannot fight indiscriminate hate crimes, with indiscriminate reprisals -
it's like trying to put a fire out with gasoline.

Acting in a reactionary manner achieves NOTHING but more *innocent* deaths -
it merely causes escalation - think about that. Sorry Bob, but your
co-worker is an idiot, or he is unable to see the real picture due to some
form of psycho-emotional myopia.

Thanks for putting a rational spin on this, Shaun. I can't imagine what
you and others in England must be going through right now.

Myself, a great sadness and a helluvah lot of anger, just as I feel every
time I hear of this sort of thing. For those in the midst or who have lost
someone, I would not presume to say...

It scares me, for nations as a whole, for this planet, every time something
like this happens, and every time I see the way 'we' react...
