Default teflon coating-can I remove it?

A couple of years ago I bought a cheap teflon pot for cottage use. The
teflon coating is all chipping off (yuk)and I can't use it anymore to cook.
Was wondering how to remove the remaining teflon. That way at least I can
use the pot to boil water for pasta. Never being one to throw anything out.

Thanks.

Will do....... or put a plant in it. Have replaced it anyway with a
non-teflon pot.

I'd reccomend discarding the pot. You really don't want to be eating
teflon flakes.

I have one of those griddle pans that sits across two burners. Well,
it used to be non stick ... it had that crappy old fashioned type of
coating that would flake off if you so much as looked at it. I don't
know about the rest of you, I like butter and syrup on my french
toast, not teflon (whatever) flakes.

I took my power sander (whatever it's called) and got the crap off of
the griddle. Now it's just an aluminum griddle. I can't say as I
would recommend that, who know what the effects are to sanding
non stick coatings.

Having said that, I'm talking about a flat surface, the original post
sounded like a pot. Forget about it, what a chore! Just toss it and
get a new pot. I don't even know why people buy non stick pots.

sounds like you got your use out of it...toss it; it wouldn't be worth the
hassle.

A wire wheel that chucks into a drill. Wearing eye protection and doing it
outside so as not to get lungfuls of teflon powder, would be in order.

I think it's just easier to spend $5 for a new pan LOL.

Because they're wonderful. Things don't stick and they're
easy to clean. I wouldn't be without one. Especially skillets.
I do manage with non-teflon-coated pots.

Ah, but if you soak the pot it right away, it comes off easily. I'll
never buy another teflon pot. It's a waste of money. But I love my super
expensive teflon frying pan!

Sorry, I took "pots" to means any sort of pot of pan,
i.e. that you were using it in the general sense.

I never had that problem with rice when I used to do
it on the stove in a regular pot - either an aluminum
pot or a Visions pot or an enameled pot or a stainless
steel pot. I never had rice stick to the bottom.
Now I do rice in the microwave in a pyrex baking dish.
You might try that. I put the rice, water, salt, and
butter in, cover the dish with a double layer of paper
towel, put the lid on, and nuke for 20 minutes. It
comes out perfect every time.

Nah, and I do have a couple of non-stick skillets, myself. Very
useful.

I'm pulling my blinds! ;-) I heard about that diner
thing through on of my mailing lists, either American
Diner Museum list or Roadside Fans list. Unfortunately
I didn't get the message until it was too late for me
to tape the shows. Damn. Oh, well.

I'm hoping to get to Blobfest this year (July 16-17-18)
in Phoenixville, PA, which has one of my favorite diners,
the Vale-Rio diner. Can't wait.
