teflon coating-can I remove it?
A couple of years ago I bought a cheap teflon pot for cottage use. The
teflon coating is all chipping off (yuk)and I can't use it anymore to cook. Was wondering how to remove the remaining teflon. That way at least I can use the pot to boil water for pasta. Never being one to throw anything out. Thanks. Elaine |

Well, it used to be non stick ... it had that crappy old fashioned type of coating that would flake off if you so much as looked at it. I don't know about the rest of you, I like butter and syrup on my french toast, not teflon (whatever) flakes. I took my power sander (whatever it's called) and got the crap off of the griddle. Now it's just an aluminum griddle. I can't say as I would recommend that, who know what the effects are to sanding non stick coatings. Having said that, I'm talking about a flat surface, the original post sounded like a pot. Forget about it, what a chore! Just toss it and get a new pot. I don't even know why people buy non stick pots. nancy |

I think it's just easier to spend $5 for a new pan LOL.

I don't even know why people buy non stick pots. Because they're wonderful. Things don't stick and they're easy to clean. I wouldn't be without one. Especially skillets. I do manage with non-teflon-coated pots. I never had that problem with rice when I used to do it on the stove in a regular pot - either an aluminum pot or a Visions pot or an enameled pot or a stainless steel pot. I never had rice stick to the bottom. Now I do rice in the microwave in a pyrex baking dish. You might try that. I put the rice, water, salt, and butter in, cover the dish with a double layer of paper towel, put the lid on, and nuke for 20 minutes. It comes out perfect every time. Very useful. nancy (ps: I've thought of you every morning this week. Nervous yet? (laugh) Good Morning America has had the Best of Diners. This morning they picked the Hollywood Diner in MD) |

Unfortunately I didn't get the message until it was too late for me to tape the shows. Damn. Oh, well. I'm hoping to get to Blobfest this year (July 16-17-18) in Phoenixville, PA, which has one of my favorite diners, the Vale-Rio diner. Can't wait.
