Request from a fellow teacher

Bev:
I just saw this post to a private newsgroup from an online friend.
Do you have any resources/advice to offer her?

"I will save my post of vitrol about an administration that makes
technical decisions over the agruments of their technical people and
then expects the pieces to be picked up for another post. Instead, some
questions for techies among you.

The Milton Academy lower school will be migrating from Macs to PCs next
year (against my reccomendation, but who cares what I say). I need to,
very quickly, come up to speed on active directory, ghost, imaging, and
Microsoft networking. I also need to find inexpensive software
replacements for everything on my Mac image. I need to find resources
to plan the immense amount of faculty training that I'm going to be
responsible for. I need to learn enough about group policies to figure
out how to replace all of my little kid lock down stuff from the Mac and
I need to identify hardware vendors who made PCs as kid proof as an
iBook. All this needs to happen yesterday.

So, techies, advice? Books I should read? Mailing lists I should join?
Trainings, websites - anything? Software that's a must have? I've
been happily ensconced in the Mac world for over a year, and I've been
mostly out of the networking buisness for longer than that. Where would
you start? (No, not with a new job - I love the kids I teach and my
co-workers, and administrations make moronic decisions everywhere). "
