picled rowan berries
Some years ago, when I was living in Cambridge, there was an Estonian family living in the flat above me. We often cooked for each other. They also had quite a few friends amongst the Polish expat community in East Anglia. One old Polish woman gave them a jar of pickled rowan (European mountain ash) berries. Tiina, the Estonian woman, cooked a great pork dish and served the rowan berries as a sort of a relish. They were a beautiful combination. I've searched through any number of books and have trawled Google, but I cannot seem to find a single recipe for pickling rowan berries. I've already got several decent looking recipes for rowan jelly, so I'm not looking for that. Have any of you come across the pickled berries? Do you have a recipe lurking somewhere? Thanks in advance. RobtE |
