Default opinions on cuisinart stainless cookware?

i need new cookware. now. i have a set of crappy nonstick that is wearing
off, and somehow, soaking up dishwashing soap and everything tastes funny,
even when i rinse the pans over and over. i found a reasonably priced set of
cuisinart "everyday" stainless cookware (have a copper sandwich bottom) on
amazon and was wondering if anyone here had used them and could offer their
opinions. mind you, i cannot afford the *really* good stuff, i just want
pans that will stand up to every day cooking, heat relatively evenly, and
can go in the oven.

Give your local restaurant supply store a visit before you waste anymore
money. Much better quality (it has to be) and cheaper than any junk
you'll find at those Bed Bath and Trash stores...

I am totally pleased with the KitchenAid nonstick cookware. It has worked
for me for 4 months with no indication that it will not perform any time in
the future.

i spent 50 bucks on the cookware i have. i bought it at meijer (a midwest
chain that is sort of like a super wal-mart). would i be able to get a 13
piece cookware set for less than $200? thats my budget. somehow, i doubt
that ill be able to find anything that will suit my needs *and* my budget if
i go with a professional line. i will look into it, however; thanks.

Betcha they'll work just fine. I've had copper bottom stainless (Revere)
that's been in my family 50 years and they're still cooking fine (on
electric coil no less, and I presume you have gas). These can't be worse.

I have some nonstick and use an automatic dishwasher. So long as I don't
use one of the really clingy detergents like Cascade Complete liquid,
there's no residual taste. Try a thinner formula of liquid detergent if you
do it by hand. The premium brands are harder to rinse completely because
they cling.

Got news for you, Saerah.
Cuisinart IS really good stuff!
It's just not overpriced.

Go for it.
I have one. It's a small skillet and it performs very well.
It's true, to some degree, that you get what you pay for.
The stuff you currently have is proof of that.

$200 for 13 pieces (IF you'll use all the pieces, or most of them), in this
case, is a fair price for good quality. Go for it.

But--I have to interject my personal opinion here. Farberware now has a
triple ply (same construction as All Clad). Prices are comparable to
Cuisinart. While I haven't used it, I know that Farberware is a company
that stands behind their products and offer excellent quality for a fair
price. If you're interested in a triple clad set, I suggest you look in to
Farberware Millennium, as well.

Good luck and let us know what you choose.

well, i *would* use all of the pieces, at least once a week. and they are
running a sale where you get a free griddle, too. but to be fair, "13 piece"
means 7 pans, 5 lids, and a pasta/soup stock insert thing. i would get the
10 piece set , but it doesnt come with a saute pan, which is a piece i use
alot (from my current set), and i could really use the griddle, so it makes
a better deal for me.

it seems that most of the triple ply farberware have aluminum cores..a
friend of mine that i was discussing my upcoming purchase with said that
copper is a better conductor of heat. i could only find the copper clad in a
set with an open saute pan, and for some recipes that i prepare, i need a
covered saute. im gonna have to bring the lid from my stainless stockpot to
an actual store to see if it would fit, because it is a much better deal
than the cuisinart. HOWEVER, the set shown on amazon looks different than
the set on farberwares site.. curiouser and curiouser...

I've been using a 9-piece set (3 saucepans, one 7-quart pot, one 10-inch
skillet and 4 lids, about $180 on sale) for several years now and have
been completely satisfied. If the price is right to you for this set, by
all means go for it.

One caveat -- do not believe the "stay cool" nonsense about the handles.
They get hot. Very hot. Just be careful.

Do they have plastic handles? I wasn't happy when I tried putting my
Farberware dutch oven in the oven, I could smell it. Put me off my
dinner, even if they didn't actually melt.

Don't laugh, that is precisely what happened to the Farberware handles.

I find it funny because wrapping plastic handles with foil won't keep them from
burning. If the oven is at say 375F so will be the plastic... foil helps keep
food from browning because the foil acts as a shield that maintains moisture,
which keeps food cooler, but plastic handles contain no moisture to maintain...
plastic knobs will crisp up in an oven exactly the same whether covered with
foil or not.

I have a set of Cuisanart Stainless Steel cookware, and I like it very much.
It does heat evenly and I can put it in the oven. The only thing I don't
have is a polisher and they're looking kind of ugly.

Cuisanart's handles are metal so be careful when removing from the stove!
(First hand experience there. Whew!)
