Daisy Ham?
A lady friend of mine was originally from New England (New Hampshire to be
precise). When we went back to Boston/Cape Cod, she went out and bought a *Daisy Ham* to prepare for dinner one night. She absolutely loves these things. Being that she now lives in the San Francisco Bay Area, she can't find them here. Anybody have ANY leads as to where one *might* find one. Pretty sure it was a *Daisy Ham*. TIA, Eric |

TIA, Eric Google gives many sources and much information. Including this excerpt on other names: " € About 1 pound rolled shoulder ham (also called daisy ham or Boston butt), tough outer skin removed " Whether you want to Google for Bay Area stores that may carry it, or just ask your local butcher for "rolled shoulder ham" or the alternatives, is up to you. --Tim May |

I haven't heard that term for a long time. A Daisy ham is also known as smoked Boston shoulder, Boston butt, or rolled shoulder ham. Tho I also haven't seen that cut of pork in a market in the Bay Area. Your friend could check with some local markets or could check if a market would order one for her. Andronico's is usually very cooperative about special orders. Mac |
Tim, Mac...Thanks for the info. I'll give her the info you passed on to me.
Somehow didn't think Google would give me local stores that carry it, but I'll give it a shot. 'Course, now knowing alternative names will give me a larger search base... Many Thanks!!!! Eric |

Google gives massive amounts of information. More importantly, knowing 3 different names for your request means you can call or visit your various butchers. Also, since you didn't mention which part of very large Bay Area you are in, ranging from SF to Marin to Fremont to Palo Alto to Concord to Sonoma to San Mateo to Santa Cruz to Lafayette to Alviso to....etc....it is even less likely than any of us could recommend to you a place to buy "Daisy ham." Or, would you have been satisfied if I had written "The Freedom Meat Locker has Daisy ham." My haunch, er, hunch, is that any large or good butcher shop can provide you with this cut, once you have one of the several names of it. --Tim May |
