Anyone Fridgid?

I got a 23lb turkey this year (unexpected company, don't ask). First thing
Monday morning I transfered it from freezer to fridge, my basement fridge.
Tonight I decided to visit down there to see how it's doing, still pretty much
hard as a rock, I palpated only a few sorta soft spots by the nipples... will
it be thawed by Thursday morning... I'm getting worried I shoulda given it
another day. How are all yoose boids doin'?

You know, I have completely forgot to check our birds to see if they're
defrosted! Wow, thanks for the reminder because we still have to brine 'em.
Or are we injecting them? I can't remember. Anyway, Sheldon, thanks.

kili - thinking she should be checking those birds right NOW.

I would be more worried that the turkey had nipples.

23lbs... I did a balance beam test with the 22lb. turkey I have and our
largest cat. Guess which was heavier - the damned cat.

In any case mine seems to be nicely defrosted now and I didn't bring it
home until Monday night.

Note that I do crank the fridge temp way down so I'm assuming you've got
a unit that could flash freeze stuff in the fridge compartment.

After getting a frozen 20 pounder at the ridiculous price of $7.00 (Safeway)
last weekend, I was walking through another local store and saw a better
quality fresh bird for 99 cents a pound - Twenty bucks later I now have 2.

I'll brine the fresh guy in apple juice and cook it in the oven. The other
birds will be smoked over New Years for new years day.

Thanks for the reminder.

On the advice from my butcher, I purchased a "hard chilled" free range bird
this year. It was on it's way to thawing when I picked it up on Monday, and
is now ready for the brine or rub, if I ever make up my mind!
Do you have a sink large enough to accommodate your bird? My mom always
thawed hers in a sink of cold water. You could try that, especially if you
get a start on it right away.

Happy Thanksgiving, Sheldon and everyone else too.
