We had beef stew tonight

This is a true story.
Yesterday, I boiled some beef chunks along with BtB and a small can of tomato
sauce for beef stew. One section of my side fence had five slats knocked out
by the neighbor kid kicking balls against it, so I decided to hammer them
back into place.
I gathered the materials together along with a old scissor chair, so I could
pull out nails and staples while sitting down before banging the slats into
the fence again. I gathered the slats and sat down on the chair, ripped right
through and found myself smooshed on the bottom of the scissor in a fetal
position with my legs straight up in the air.
I was in a clamp with nobody around.
I panicked for a couple of minutes, strained a third of the way out of the
clamp, and rocked side-to-side until I fell onto the grass, extricated
myself, pulled out the nails from the slats, fixed the fence, discarded the
chair and announced to the women that we would be eating fast-food.

Hope you are ok!! Your dinner sounded good and hearty and you need it
after what you went through.

Next time hand that hammer to that kid and tell him to fix what he tore up.

I find this very arousing, for some reason. Time for Mom's old clog
and the lube again.

Amazingly, I didn´t pull a muscle, strain a ligament or break a bone. I
just pooped myself out. That ain´t bad for seventy-four. To add to another
thread, all three of us over-seventy-somethings received our first covid shot
today.

> Next time hand that hammer to that kid and tell him to fix what he tore up.

I expected his dad to repair the fence long before I finally did. Dad's less
than half my age and just had to walk around the corner of the fence to
repair it when the slats broke loose.

If it happens again. hammer some nails through the slats, pointy side
towards the kid. When he kicks his ball again, it'll get punctured.

Stew sounds good. I had planned to make beef stew this winter but never
got around to it... not that Spring or even Summer would stop me if I
had a hankering for stew. :)

AAE. Oh sorry, I meant "Americans Abbreviate Everything". It's

How do you do your stew? What do you put in yours? Mine is the basic
brown gravy, beef cubes, carrots, potatoes, peas and a few tiny
onions.

(picture for Sheldon)

Albertsons had a great sale going and specials for those folks that
used their app. I also got a picture perfect chuck roast for pot
roast. If there had been a smaller roast I would have gotten that for
beef stew. I've had beef stew simmering in the back of my mind for
several weeks now.

Really? You frequently mention cooking a dozen eggs (a "frittata",
since potatoes form the bottom layer under the eggs in the skillet) with
"sawseege" or ham, or something, and cheese.

I never once noticed you posting about a Dozen Egg Asparagus Omelet and
calling it 'a DEAO'. I do pay attention and know I'd remember the
made-up acronym since it's pretty darn stupid. Got a picture?

Two cups of Bisquick and two thirds of a cup of milk make foolproof drop
dumplings. To make them "fancy", toss a half cup of fresh chopped parsley
into the dough while mixing with a fork.
Too dry? Add a bit of milk. Too wet? Add a bit of Bisquick. Use the same fork
to "spoon" the dumplings into the stew. There should be seven dumplings,
plus or minus, when done.
Real cooks concoct their own dumplings. I use Bisquick. I´ve never been
disappointed.

That's my problem. I don't know what is too wet or too dry. Dumplings
were not part of my childhood food. I never saw them or ate them. So
when I have tried I either get something that disintegrates in the
broth or is thick and chewy in the center. shrug
I may give the Bisquick a whirl.

Marinating yourselves in wine makes a big difference.
Forget the bisquick, think matzoh dumplings (balls).
https://www.allrecipes.com/recipe/23...-matzah-balls/
Exceptional in beef soup/stew. I don't buy matzoh meal, I grind my
own, same with meat, that's the only way to know it's kosher/clean.
---> very important, cook matzoh dumplings in plain water and store in
fridge, then add to stew to reheat.

'Spätzle is alot like that. Bits of dough or batter that is boiled in water and then served later.

BtB probably means "Better than Bouillon" soup base

Yes, it meant "Bite the Bullet" (and eat Leo's beef dish).

The drop dumplings are a basic Betty Crocker recipe. I use the same
recipe when making chicken & dumplings.
