HAPPY HAPPY to you, Lucretia...!!!

2020 has been okay for me, I have a decent job and my health is pretty decent...so no complaints really. I've become accustomed to remote working, and actually now prefer it. Also, I like being solitary anyways, so that is a plus...

Just now catching up with some long - time friends and acquaintances. One guy was in a bad out - of - state car wreck, his girlfriend died and he was badly injured, he is recovering. Two lost their spouses, so both are now widows. Another broke her femur, she is with family recovering. Some have lost jobs, they are at least getting unemployment benefits, etc. But the majority I know are doing okay or even well...

So, COUNT YER BLESSINGS, I say, and CHERISH each moment...time is one thing that no amount of money can buy, so use it wisely...

Tonight I am getting some resto carry - out, something I hardly ever do, except for a pizza. It is a "dinner for two", mains are salmon piccata and beef short ribs, sides are mash taters, bruxelles sprouts and focaccia...should all last me the weekend...

HAPPY NEW YEAR, to you, too!!

I agree with Greg, 2020 has been alright for me as well. I've got my health
and although there have been tough times for many I suffered no tornado
damage, nor have I had Covid, and no bomb damage. Being retired, I lost
no income from the virus and wondering how I'm going to pay rent/mortgage.
For a lot of people they will be happy to see the end of this year.

I think they don't start until March here. I don't know why there so
slow, except that there's not much covid here.

Have you already had it or when will you get it? You must be in a high
priority bracket after medical staff and people in nursing homes. (And
ever important politicians no doubt.)

After the high priority ones, over-75s are next in line.

Yes I will be but frankly I'd rather my turn went to someone younger
who has to go out to work etc. I'm not convinced the elderly should

But the younger, the less risk. Let them go out and do what they have
to do, but when you meet them, you want to be protected.

It was a pretty shitty year for me. In February my 46 year old niece
dropped dead of a heart attack. The visitation/memorial service was
held in Ottawa on Feb.29/March 1. Less than two weeks later we were in
lock down. A couple of my favourite activities, kayaking and pickleball,
were cancelled. Another favourite is going out for motorcycle rides
with my friend and having a beer at a craft brewery. They all had to
close for a few months, so we did get a few brew rides before the cold
weather came. Restrictions eased and restaurants started to open up,.

When we took my wife out for a birthday dinner we had to dine outside.
Later on restaurants were able to do indoor service, and my son was
going to take me out for dinner on my birthday in November. Infection
rates were rising fast so there were restrictions on indoor dining and
everyone at a table had to live in the same house.

Over the last few weeks infection rates started to soar, so now we are
back in lockdown.

Meanwhile, I spent a week in cardiac intensive care. I am still in
recuperation mode. There was very little Christmas baking this year
because I can't eat that sort of stuff any more, and we weren't going
out or having people in to share the stuff with.

All in all, it has been a really shitty year. This Covid19 shit started
last winter. Here we are back in winter, and it looks like it is going
to be a hell of a lot worse before it gets better.

In Florida it is 65 and over. In our county they have 3500 doses for

That's actually a very noble attitude you have, Lucretia.

That's true. There is always something worse. A few years back I was
listening to a radio show about miscarriages and one woman who called in
had had one and a friend commented that she was lucky that she already
had a couple children. The woman was really upset about that and said
that a person could not say anything worse to a woman who had just lost
a baby by miscarriage. Well, I have to admit that my mind often jumps
at the opportunity to consider all the possibilities. Luckily, the
filter sometimes works, but I can tell you that I immediately considered
dozens of things that would have been so much more offensive to someone
who was so sensitive that she took that well meaning remark so badly.

You think like this:
"I'm old so it's alright if I get covid and die. Give my vaccine to a
young person, even though they'd be over their covid in 2 weeks."

Now who's stupid?

You're not up to date, they are finding many younger people suffer
long term effects from covid. In any event, someone who has to go to
work etc. should have priority over moi.

You just see it from a typically selfish point of view, maybe you're

I read those stories too and they're terrible, but nevertheless, if
you're old, your chance of dying from covid's much bigger.

If there was one vaccine between me and my 80 year old neighbour, I'd
give it to them and then wait for my own turn. If there was one
vaccine between me and my 10 year younger wife, I'd give it to her and
wait for my own turn. Ain't I wonderful and empathic? If she was 50
and I was an 85 year old chain smoking diabetic with one leg, it would
probably be different.

usually people who use those sorts of phrases strike me
as ultra-conservative and often are bigots/racists/sexists
and paranoid if you talk to them for long they'll start
talking about conspiracy theories about all sorts of things
and you want to back away.

unfortunately my father is one of them. :(

Are you too dense to see the logic that if you are older you are
automatically closer to death? Do you have a problem with that? I
don't, it's the only certain thing in life.

All the more reason to get the vaccine. Why make life shorter than it
already is?

That's because you're very empathic.
