Dinner tonight 11/27/2020
 

We're having something as far away from T-Day dinner as possible!

Hot German potato salad
Bratwurst
Salad
Pumpkin Pie
Haven't decided on drinks yet.

Lost my hot German potato salad recipe when I shared it with my oldest
grandson. Fortunately I took a picture of the recipe to text him and
was able to retrieve it. Whew!

I finally got some Ciabatta bread. Now I can have the toasted sandwich I've
been craving! Turkey. bacon. tomato and Swiss.

We didn't have much in the way of leftovers. Some stuffing, two slices of
turkey and green bean casserole. I made the mistake of using a different
recipe with cheese. It was too rich for me. Two bites was my limit. There is
also damned good pie! I hope Justin eats that. I shouldn't have it.

sounds like a sandwich I would like. Maybe I would put some slice
onion on it

I considered the onion, but I don't have the new fridge yet. If I put part
of an onion in the one I have, it could freeze. I could rehydrate some dried
onion. I have done that for burgers. Not sure how well that would go here.
Maybe if I mix it with some mayo.

That sounds like a good sandwich, heated up a bit to soften the swiss
cheese.

I took a picture of it too.

HOT GERMAN POTATO SALAD
Origin: Dorothy Glaeser


8 Slices of bacon, diced. Fry until done but not crispy. Remove from
the pan and drain
Keep 4 Tablespoons bacon fat in the pan.
Saute (in the bacon fat) until golden, one large onion, diced.
Add: 4 Tablespoons white sugar
2 Tablespoons white flour
1 teaspoon table salt
Add: ¼ cup white vinegar
1 ½ cups water
Stir over medium heat until smooth.
Use red skinned potatoes, about 3 pounds. Boil them whole until a
paring knife just pierces the potato. Peel and slice the potatoes. I
slice each potato into the sauce separately so that the potatoes
don't
stick together.
Stir in the bacon.
Keep warm until service

I'll slice some turkey lurkey to go with kasha varniskas, still have
some gravey, sweet potatos, and asparaguys.

Is lurkey a type of meat loaf? I guess it goes well with that
varnish stuff.

I have very few "recipes" I use (most are just methods). But the few
I have written down are archived either here or in Facebook. I have
less than 5 of them.

Also, if I want to remember how I cooked something sorta unique from
the past, I purposely put details such as time/temp (especially for
sous vide) and anything I'd do differently next time in my posts to
Facebook so I can look them up again. Those idiots think I'm
talking to them when it's just my food diary ;-)
