I'm not proud of that kind of stuff. I don't derive my self-worth from
the computer that I use. You do. Maybe that's a rock thing. All I can
say is: Enjoy!

You're the one doing the bragging.

What does it matter? You use what you have to use, just like I do.

<boggle> That a month ago I called you and it had nothing to do with
the new/old Google groups. But perhaps the solution is the same as
it was last month:

Perhaps yoose whiny types should learn how to solve your own problems instead of expecting other people to do it for you. Yoose gets the last word.

I've done both of your suggestions, except at work where my employer
dictates the OS that I use. I'm running Fedora 31 on my home PC.

And I still am courteous enough to hit Enter at the end of each line,
realizing that GG does not follow the norms for Usenet formatting.

There's a new heading on the top of Google Groups:

"The new Google Groups has a fresh look and updated controls and will be replacing classic Groups soon"

Sounds like you want to be given a medal for enabling people to cling to their archaic programs and OSes. That's called "virtue signaling" isn't it? Unfortunately, I have virtue. None at all.

So first they made a totally non-compliant Usenet web interface and
now they've redesigned it, but I bet without making it more compliant
with the Usenet standards. They've polished a turd. A waste of energy.

Usenet is old. If you make a Usenet interface, respect its old
standards. Or else don't bother. Make something new.

That's like saying modern cars are non-compliant with dirt roads. I can read Usenet posts easier, faster, and in more places than you can. I can post easier and faster and in more places than you can. You're stuck to using your machines. That's so primitive. I can do searches in Usenet and the internet without leaving the interface or opening another program. I can do everything faster and better than you can. You OTOH, are just shit out of luck. So sorry, but it ain't my problem. Suck it up.

Pretty much. The new interface looks more like an app for a

I began surfing the Internet in Usenet, while the WWW was being developed! 1991-1995! Usenet USED to be great, but now is mostly SPAMMED out of usefulness.

**** the fresh new GoogleGroups! Now Google wants to make them more Surveillance CAPITALISM friendly and thus more PROFITABLE for Google!

But Governments are becoming more strict and 'on the scent' of the Surveillance Capitalists!! I say break them all up, confiscate their BILLIONS/TRILLIONS of $$ and distribute it to all the Cell Phone users it all came from!

Well, use one of the free or dirt cheap real Usenet providers then.
Dump the surveillance capitalists. Become a genuine Usenetter!

"surfing the internet" is annoying to me.
I began surfing in the Atlantic Ocean in 1968.

That's a pretty good point. I suppose surfers might not like the term. Hopefully, the term will just disappear in a few years. I suggest "slutting the internet."

There's more to the Internet than the World Wide Web, as Usenet newsgroups demonstrate.

Since you use a browser to access the WWW, browsing is as good as anything.

To return to the original topic, I've switched to the new Google Groups. I suppose I'll get used to it,
just as I get used to it when they rearrange the grocery store.

The World Wide web was born in 1990, but it was a few more years before it really got big enough to be useful.
