The warning was in case they stopped me again and I was speeding then I'd definitely receive a ticket as they'd already given me a chance to slow down. Insurance automatically renews next week. |

This Super Walmart is on the way. That's pretty much what I thought, Walmart was on your route from elsewhere, we do that often... no one is going to make a special 65 mile trip to Walmart. The only time we'll go to The Gold Coin for good Chinese food is when one of us has an appointment at the nearby medical center, we are not going to make a 50 mile round trip for eggrolls and fly lice... we don't even eat there, we do take out and buy enough for two meals. We have to pass by on the way home so it's not even out of the way. We've only eaten there twice but now they know us and prepare everything very well for us. We phone in our order a few minutes before we get there. everything is ready and nicely wrappd so it's still hot by the time we arrive home. The Chinese are very good with wrapping, everything is tightly fit into a corrogated carton that's snuggly fit into another corrogated carton... so it's well insulated... steaming hot when we arrive home. They're very familiar with where we live so they know it's a haul... they live about 2 miles from us so they are neighbors. |

Like Black Russian tomatoes or jalapeno chiles. > > Cindy Hamilton > Odd for a vegetarian not to know there are different varieties of vegetables. The corn on the cob in my area right now is the bread and butter variety. I do prefer sweet yellow corn for corn chowder. I like Kate Connally's recipe for Nebraska Corn Chowder circa 2001: NEBRASKA CORN CHOWDER 8 medium-sized ears of sweet corn, husked (or 2 cans or 2 boxes frozen, about 3-4 cups) ź lb. salt pork, diced (or substitute slab bacon) 2 medium-sized yellow onions, peeled and chopped 2 small potatoes, peeled and cubed 1 T. sugar ˝ t. paprika 1 t. salt t. freshly ground pepper ˝ c. water 2 c. milk 2 c. light cream Cut the kernels off the cobs cream-style (make a deep cut down the center of each row of kernels with a sharp knife, then, using the knife, scrape the corn pulp and milk into a large bowl). Fry the salt pork in a large, heavy skillet until most of the drippings have cooked out and only crispy brown bits remain; lift the salt pork from the skillet with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towel. Pour all but 3 T. drippings from the skillet; add onions and potatoes and saute slowly until lightly browned, about 10 minutes. Add sugar, paprika, salt, pepper, and water, cover and simmer 10 minutes. Add corn, milk, cream, and browned salt pork, adjust heat so mixture bubbles gently, cover, and simmer 20 minutes - do not allow to boil. Taste for salt and pepper and add more if needed. Ladle into soup plates and serve with good homemade bread and butter. Thanks, Kate! Jill |

That's the only way I used to eat corn for the first 30 years of my life: in "Mexican mix", with peas and bell peppers.
