It is not my problem/concern/kuleana if you have no kids. I shall not give you the satisfaction of being the scapegoat for your resentment in this matter, sir!

I just like the taste of white whole kernel corn for fried corn. I've tried
the chub rolls of frozen creamed style white corn but that stuff needs to be
served over ice cream it is sooooo sweet with sugar.

Yes, I was lucky but I put it down to being respectful. It never ends well

Hold on here!
Don't you live in Nashville?
So you drove 65 miles (one way) to stop by a Walmart for corn

Silverqueen corn is the best for me. Best for corn chowder,
corn fritters, or just plain pile of corn to eat.

When it's locally grown each spring, I always buy lots and even
freeze plenty for after the season. Even frozen is better than
canned, imo.

eh-oh. A written warning not a verbal one.
That will probably show up on your record and your
auto insurance might go up next time you renew it.

No, it won't. The warning was in case they stopped me again and I was
speeding then I'd definitely receive a ticket as they'd already given me
a chance to slow down. Insurance automatically renews next week.

It's a variety. Like Black Russian tomatoes or jalapeno chiles.

It's a certain variety of corn that is grown and common
in my area. Sweet, white and crisp corn. I like it better than
yellow corn which tends to be a bit more chewy.

sugary sweet.

That's pretty much what I thought, Walmart was on your route from
elsewhere, we do that often... no one is going to make a special 65
mile trip to Walmart. The only time we'll go to The Gold Coin for
good Chinese food is when one of us has an appointment at the nearby
medical center, we are not going to make a 50 mile round trip for
eggrolls and fly lice... we don't even eat there, we do take out and
buy enough for two meals. We have to pass by on the way home so it's
not even out of the way. We've only eaten there twice but now they
know us and prepare everything very well for us. We phone in our
order a few minutes before we get there. everything is ready and
nicely wrappd so it's still hot by the time we arrive home. The
Chinese are very good with wrapping, everything is tightly fit into a
corrogated carton that's snuggly fit into another corrogated carton...
so it's well insulated... steaming hot when we arrive home. They're
very familiar with where we live so they know it's a haul... they live
about 2 miles from us so they are neighbors.

Odd for a vegetarian not to know there are different varieties of
vegetables.

The corn on the cob in my area right now is the bread and butter
variety. I do prefer sweet yellow corn for corn chowder.

I like Kate Connally's recipe for Nebraska Corn Chowder circa 2001:

NEBRASKA CORN CHOWDER

8 medium-sized ears of sweet corn, husked (or 2 cans or 2 boxes frozen,
about 3-4 cups)
ź lb. salt pork, diced (or substitute slab bacon)
2 medium-sized yellow onions, peeled and chopped
2 small potatoes, peeled and cubed
1 T. sugar
˝ t. paprika
1 t. salt
t. freshly ground pepper
˝ c. water
2 c. milk
2 c. light cream

Cut the kernels off the cobs cream-style (make a deep cut down the
center of each row of kernels with a sharp knife, then, using the knife,
scrape the corn pulp and milk into a large bowl). Fry the salt pork in
a large, heavy skillet until most of the drippings have cooked out and
only crispy brown bits remain; lift the salt pork from the skillet with
a slotted spoon and drain on paper towel. Pour all but 3 T. drippings
from the skillet; add onions and potatoes and saute slowly until lightly
browned, about 10 minutes. Add sugar, paprika, salt, pepper, and water,
cover and simmer 10 minutes. Add corn, milk, cream, and browned salt
pork, adjust heat so mixture bubbles gently, cover, and simmer 20
minutes - do not allow to boil. Taste for salt and pepper and add more
if needed. Ladle into soup plates and serve with good homemade bread
and butter.

Thanks, Kate!

Jill

Since we were talking about canned corn upthread (someone
mentioned Del Monte, which is a brand), it could have gone
either way.

Speaking of canned corn, there's one company that makes
(at least they used to make) "Mexicorn." I used to buy
that long ago. Both daughter and I liked it.

I just googled it. Made by Green Giant.
"Whole kernel corn, red & green bell peppers."

That's the only way I used to eat corn for the first 30 years of my
life: in "Mexican mix", with peas and bell peppers. Very much like
this:

Why wouldn't canned food have a brand?

Why shouldn't fresh fruit have the grower's or distributor's name
associated with it?
