Default Yesterdays Lunch

We had a small gathering...

Chicken noodle soup. Roast beef(sirloin tip), mashed potatoes and butternut squash(which I found to be too sweet). Gravy.
The real star was dessert. Pineapple kipfel. For those who don't know from kipfels, they are a crescent shaped pastry stuffed with filling of your choice.
Traditionally, the women in our circle would fill them with ground walnuts and apricot jam. Coconut also works.

Â* We had fried catfish with hush puppies and fries from a small place
here . Krispy house has some of the best catfish I've ever had , but the
atmosphere sucks . Small octagonal building that's half kitchen/prep
area and half stuffed with tables and folding chairs . Elbow to elbow
.... so we get it to go and eat at home .

Following the inverse rule: for foods like fried fish and barbecue, the
worse the establishment looks, the better the food is.

Our fried chicken joint was sold by the Korean couple who owned it for
as long as I can remember. The new owner fixed it up and the food isn't
nearly as good.

That's the way it seems to work in my area, Cindy. If you want fried
fish or barbeque, the places are small, they don't often have room for
more than a three or four tables. Easier to get it to go. But the food
is great!

I don't eat out often but I personally know a few places that fit that
description. They're so small they don't have online menus. But
they've been in business for years because the food is very good.

I've always preferred take-out-to-eat at home anyway.
Meal sounds good! Maybe a bit of coleslaw on the side
might be nice.

Â* Yeah , I forgot the slaw . I don't like slaw unless it's on a BBQ
sandwich ... my wife however does like it , so she ate it .
