You may be getting a PSA confused with something else. A PSA is a simple test
run on bloodwork commonly given during any blood draw for testing. It is not
a procedure. It produces a number which may or may not be cause for alarm.
There is no finger in "you know where", no scalpels, no radiation, no
nothing. Itīs just a number.
A PSA shows that you may or do have a problem. What you do with a PSA number
is up to you.
I just had a friend die from doing nothing. I have another that watched his
PSA rise for years and ended up getting a prostatectomy when radiation would
have been fine earlier. He lives with perineal pain and urinates fifty times
per day.
My radiologist told me that some people react poorly to every treatment.
Early radiation has had me stable, actually fine, for five years. Who knows
what the future holds. My course of action depends upon the PSA number that I
routinely get once a year. So far, So good.
Prostate cancer kills a boatload of stubborn old men before their time.
