Default Today's lunch

Chicken vegetable soup; slightly Oriental

Ginger, garlic, onions, parsley, green bell, Kale, W sauce(always Lea and Perrins; I've tried another brand and it wasn't the same), hot sauce, Kikkoman soy sauce reduced sodium, as little chicken cube as possible, homemade chicken stock made from thighs; I got them on sale for $1.99lbCD, a bit of water. A chicken breast in there, heat and presto. I take the breast out once it's done, and let soup go for another hour. Then add cauliflower florets, cook about another 15 minutes then add cooked noodles, and diced chickBreast.

Green salad.

It's not set in stone yet, but it looks like kielbasa, sauerkraut, and
rye bread for me. If I still drank during the day, that lunch would
want a beer. But I might want to get something accomplished during
the afternoon, so it'll be water instead.

That sounds good. We used to get a double smoked kielbasa sometimes from the farmer's market. Excellent stuff. They carry that at our local deli.

Nice. I just use regular old Kowalski's, a local brand from Detroit.

Sounds good and Polish. btw, a couple of weeks ago, you said that you ate much 'bland' WASP food while growing up. What did you mean by that? We also ate some WASP food in the form of roasts on a Sunday, stews etc. I thought the food was very good. Is fish and chips WASP? Good stuff.

Chicken vegetable soup; slightly Oriental

Ginger, garlic, onions, parsley, green bell, Kale, W sauce(always Lea and
Perrins; I've tried another brand and it wasn't the same), hot sauce,
Kikkoman soy sauce reduced sodium, as little chicken cube as possible,
homemade chicken stock made from thighs; I got them on sale for $1.99lbCD, a
bit of water. A chicken breast in there, heat and presto. I take the
breast out once it's done, and let soup go for another hour. Then add
cauliflower florets, cook about another 15 minutes then add cooked noodles,
and diced chickBreast.

Green salad.

No lunch for me but I had cottage cheese and fried apples for breakfast.

I wish I could buy those things here, I'd still like to try that
combination. Well, I could buy it, but I need to go to a supermarket
specialising in Western food, and it's expensive. I'll wait until I'm
back in Aus.

Yes, but I'd have to travel 20 minutes to buy both apples and cottage
cheese. Also, all the apples here are of Chinese origin, to my
knowledge.

I can't remember much of what was served growing up.

I recall whitefish breaded in corn flake crumbs and pan fried.
Fried chicken
Fried pork chops
Spaghetti made with Campbell's tomato soup
Canned vegetables with all the life cooked out of them

My mother and I lived with my maternal grandparents until I was 9.
All of the adults in the house worked; nobody had much time or inclination
to cook.

It's a cube shaped plug of dried chicken bullion stock.

Typically, they are not as good as other "instant stocks", but they
seem to come in more varieties, like: fish, shrimp, ham, etc.
Typycally, Knorr brand, if you can find it.

Their "fish" stock is very much akin to instant dashi). I used 'em
interchangeably, fer yrs.
