question bananas
From your experience, in general how long does it take a banana to warm
up to room temperature after you remove it from the refrigerator? Thanks, John |

Better NOT to refrigerate a banana though, buy small amounts and eat while still room temp and fresh. I only buy 2 at a time and both still a bit green. Eat one that evening then the other one the next day. |

According to the produce manager at my local grocery store, it's okay to only buy two or three bananas if that's all you can use before they turn more ripe than you like. <shrug> As for the original question, probably only about an hour. It would depend on the temp of your refrigerator. Jill |

It would depend on the temp of your refrigerator. we can eat a lot of them here if there is no other fruit in season. the past few weeks we've been enjoying blueberries. songbird |

For those of us who don't like ripe bananas, it's a way to put them in suspended animation, especially if all the bananas available at the grocery store were at the perfect stage of unripeness. > According to the produce manager at my local grocery store, it's okay to > only buy two or three bananas if that's all you can use before they turn > more ripe than you like. <shrug> I might buy a whole bunch if I wanted to eat a banana every day for a week. And sometimes those two or three bananas ripen more quickly than anticipated. Cindy Hamilton |

I like to have half a banana slice up on cereal. My wife doesn't eat them. If I buy a big hand of ripe bananas half of them will be over ripe before I get to them. If I get a hand of under ripe bananas I cannot be sure who quickly they will ripen or if they will ripen at the same rate. So I buy just a few bananas at a time. I will take a hand of 3 or 4, but if they only have larger hands I will snap off as many as I want. I do the same with grapes. They used to have bunches on grapes on bunkers but over the last couple years they have started pre-bagging them, and in much large quantities that I want. I will take out a bunch or two, even breaking some off a bunch and put them in one of the other bags. I am not the only one who does it. We are buying them by the pound and are buying the quantities that we want, not the much larger quantities they are trying to foist on us. |
