This just happened.

Frozen spinach possibly infected by listeria. Fortunately, the frozen
spinach I buy is not from Sprouts so I'm not going to panic.

Sprouts Recalls the following products:

"Sprouts Frozen Cut Leaf Spinach, 16oz. bag, UPC 87487500982, Lot
19031203A03, USE BY 12/03/21. Identifying information can be found on
the back of the package."

"Sprouts Frozen Organic Cut Leaf Spinach, 16oz. bag, UPC 87487500991,
Lot 19031203A03, USE BY 12/03/21. Identifying information can be found
on the back of the package"

Further:

"The recall is due to random sampling which revealed the finished
products contained the bacteria. Sprouts Farmers Market has removed all
affected product from its retail stores. In addition, Sprouts is
conducting an internal investigation with National Frozen Foods to
ensure all food safety standards and being met and enforced.

Consumers who have purchased the products are urged to destroy or return
it to the stores for a full refund of the product. Consumers with
questions may contact the company at 1 (888) 577-7688 from 8am to 5pm PST"

That's the problem with huge monocrops! Vectors for DISEASE! Perfect vectors for disease too! Infects many!

Grow your own spinach! Has your own germs then! Like my basil, tomatoes and peppers to be out in my front garden beds! Basil is ready for harvest!

Also frozen berries from all major supermarket chains. Blueberry,
raspberry,etc.

If it's only sprouts, then it will likely be expanded. The same
frozen vegetable companies co-pack for a bunch of house brands and
even name brands. Sprouts was just the first ones to announce it.

What's interesting is that it affects both the conventional and the
organic farmed spinach. Indicating that the traditional could very
well be the same as the organic, just one was a higher price tag.

I've suspected as much in recent years. It's not practical for
farms to have both organic and non-organic fields.

It's probably a problem with the processing line. Now we can debate
whether organic spinach is still organic if it was washed in water
previously used to wash conventional spinach.

We have laws, just not concerning organic produce. The regulation
of organic produce is more of a guideline.

That's a big gap in your laws then. Not that I know if Australia's any

Good point. Instead of announcing a brand recall, the recall
should include all other labels made in that specific factory.

That's fine for the two months between "too cold to grow" and
"so hot it bolts". What should we do for the other 10 months
of the year?
