Our weatherman has given up trying to tell us what is going on. We
have Frog (frozen fog) and mixed precip. I'm not going out to shop
today, I'm raiding the deep freeze. Soup for lunch from frozen stock
-- clean out the veggies in the fridge. Usual suspects, onion celery,
carrots, potato, cabbage, green beans, maybe some bell pepper and a
couple of mushrooms. Bay leaf and thyme of course. Dinner. I'm
thawing a couple of thin cut pork chops for sandwiches on Kaiser rolls
that I am thawing. Probably Apple Crisp to round out dinner.
How about you? The way I see it everyone here is scheduled for
unpleasant weather.

Yeah....another week of rain each day here after
tomorrow morning. splat.

One other old question you asked about "vegetable stock".
I have made it just to use up things but I'll always toss
in just one chicken thigh. That flavors the veg broth
just enough to use for about anything.

Your choice of vegetables will dictate the final taste.
My last batch of that wasn't "all that" but I still used
it up. At least I knew I was eating all healthy ingredients

as long as we use up what we buy, it's all good, right?

Or at least try to. I went to make a tomato sandwich last night
but tomatoes were too far gone. Not bad but very soft. I put both
in a sandwich ziplock bag then onto a freezer shelf for my next
broth session.

We are supposed to get 15 cm (6 in) of snow today. It doesn't sound like
a lot, but the stuff that is falling is extremely fine, which means that
it will be heavy to move and will easily pack down and become very
slippery. I went out for a coffee a while ago and, even though I had
started slowing well in advance of our lane I almost slid past it.

We took some chicken legs out of the freezer for supper tonight. I will
probably throw a potato in to bake with the chicken, and there are some
nice green beans.

Actually, it's relatively nice here. We got snow last night, but
today will be a high of 30 F, decreasing cloud cover, and light
winds. About what I'd expect for late February.

Tonight will be chicken piccata, either salad or green beans, and
rice.

At 79 degrees, I did not slide coming back from the store.

Took four thighs out of the freezer so, chicken soup tonight. Got
everything cooking and realized we had no thyme, thus the trip to the
store. Just simmering for a while now.

Broth from tomatoes that are too far gone to eat. Gary's living the

They're probably safe and tasty, just a little wrinkled. When I have
tomatoes that have gotten like that, I roast them.

Â*I hate it when I run out of thyme ...it's like 65° here today and the

I'm too damn busy working on the house - today is another sheetrock day
.. As far as food for today , I'll find something soft ... I hadÂ* my last
tooth pulled on Monday and new dentures "installed" . I've got holes
rubbed in my gums from the first night , before they started "final
fitting" them and my mouth is so sore I can't put the bottom denture in

and it's made from grain so ... right now I'm drinking lunch .

I went to Winco, the the Business Costco. Started to snow as I was leaving.
Just a few flakes but we are to get more. Last stop Walmert Food Center.
Didn't get much. Was just looking for bargains.

Am worn out and not cooking except for some brown rice. Am just now eating
my breakfast. A prepared Mexican meal from Winco. Gardener is getting the
rice, Winco Orange Chicken and a Winco salad for dinner. Bought a freshly
baked loaf of French bread from Walmart and Honey Butter from Winco. He can
have that for a snack later. I won't be eating much dinner. Got a ton of
groceries to put away.

Tomorrow? Pot roast, potatoes, carrots, green beans. Also got a package of
cubed butternut squash on clearance. Will roast that and put in the fridge
for whoever wants it.

This winter my husband had a back injury confirmed by X-rays. He was
in incredible pain. I even took him to the emergency room once he was
able to stand. All the offerings were Tylenol only. That's just
plain cruel.
When I had my right shoulder surgery in 2010 I got prescriptions for
oxycotin by the handful. There must be a decent compromise on the
prescriptions.

Yes, I have been hearing about that. I am very pleased there is
not quite so much trouble here about them. I have to take opioids because I
have no choice. I am very careful though. I make sure I can't have so many
that I become addicted.

That shouldn't stop you having decent pain relief though

Jeeze. My husband is on 30 mg of hydrocodone every damned day.
You'd think your husband could get something better than Tylenol.

Its not BS though. My daughter manages a dental practice. One day a
young guy comes in and ask for his prescription so he could get if
filled now in case the pharmacy is closed after his late afternoon
visit. She told him sorry, the doctor will decide what to give later
and often it is OTC medication. He became enraged and grabbed her neck
and put her into the wall. Not sure of the outcome, but he did jail time.

you'd think so but I have heard complaints from others in my city that
it is virtually impossible to get anything for serious pain, and I've
heard the same from my daughter in TN.

My husband has to go through this ritual once a month where he
has a short visit with his doctor. He signs a form that says
he swears he's not taking any opioids besides those the doctor
prescribes, he's taking all of them on schedule, and he's not
diverting any. It's well worth it to get the kind of pain
management he needs.

Â* Sounds like he was having withdrawals ... I also suffer from chronic
lower back pain , some days it's pretty bad and others I hardly notice .
When I get any decent pain meds I take the minimum that I can get by on
, hoard the pills for those days I can't function without something
stronger than ibuprofen .

For most all levels of pain Advil works just fine, just be sure to
take them regularly or letting them out of your system between doses
then they are a fail. The only people who require opiods are those in
hospice.
No one needs opioids for dental work, just suck it up and quit being a
cry baby. I have severe back pain most every day, Crystal Palace
works a treat.
