Mom said that when she was a girl, Grandma made a dish called "bread dipped in egg and milk and fried." Which is the recipe I use for french toast. Proportions don't seem to matter much. It's best fried in butter. Or bacon grease if you don't plan to put sweet stuff on it. Especially if the slice of bacon is still in the grease. -- Joy Beeson joy beeson at comcast dot net http://wlweather.net/PAGEJOY/ |

Googie bread
That's French toast in the U.S. I have no idea where the other names for it come from.

I add more than a splash of milk. I don't like it too eggy. I like French toast with maple syrup and I am not crazy about the combination of egg and maple. If I have bacon and eggs with French toast I eat up the eggs first and then add the syrup. |
