Well, taking this thread off the tracks I need to have a carport built in
my backyard on top of the concrete driveway I had laid back in March. Good
grief, I can't seem to get anyone to come out and give me an estimate!
GRRRRRRRRR

I don't know if everybody thinks it's not worth their time or what. I had
ordered a carport online and went to get a builders permit before they came
to put it up. Well lo and behold my area is now deemed historic and I can't
have an aluminum carport. It has to be wooden support posts and the roof
has to mimic my roof line. Another grrrrrrrr as no one but the garbage men
and me will see this carport. Ok, ok I'll go with that as I have to but
getting someone to give me an estimate is like pulling teeth.

I can understand your frustratiuon. I've been trying to get someone
to build a carport for my tractor but they never show up, and it's
been over a year. So meanwhile what I do is to tie a large tarp over
the tractor when it's not in use. I'd only like the carport because
sometimes there are warnings of hail. I'd park the tractor in my barn
only it's a long walk and if there's heavy snow even if I got out
there I'd be lucky to drive it back to the house.

It's not easy to get people to do work nowadays. Most times it's
better to do it yourself or find an alternative such as the tarp.

I guess people just have an aversion to making money. Aggravating and
frustrating when they say "I'll be out to give you an estimate" and
they're a no show.

I looked at your picture. Very nice.

Â* Thank you ! There are more pics there , most are from the initial
(diggin' and cellar build) phase of the kitchen and the beginnings of
the living room . I need to get some shots of the "period bathroom" ,
you'd like the 1911 clawfoot tub and the antique washstand that we
turned into a vanity - and both drawers still function .

So rude, like I feel like waiting around all day and they have no
intention of showing up. Why not just say I'm too busy or whatever.

I don't know if it's still in business or if the home advisor type
of websites work the same way, but you put in what you're looking
for and get responses from people who can do the work. They paid
like $40 just to respond so no one would respond if they weren't
serious.

Other than that, I have had great luck finding people in the Services
pages of the free weekly paper most people seem to get.

There are a couple houses I see regularly that have been in a constant
state of change for at least 40 years. A friend of my brother's grew up
in one of them. The people who bought it from his parents have been
working in it for all these years and it gradually improved. The other
one has had major renovations but no improvement. It just gets bigger
and uglier all the time.

Was that one of those metal sheds? They are not easy to assemble. When
my brother moved into a house near us there was a metal shed. He was
planning to have a pool installed and wanted to get rid of the shed. He
said I could have it. I disassembled it there and it became clear that
I was not going to get it back together again.

When the time came to build a she I opted for a kit that included the
lumber, siding, shingles and garage style door and assembled it myself.
Thank goodness it backs onto a row of cedar trees so people can't see
how badly I managed with the siding and fascia there.

Typical limp wristed faggots aren't the least bit mechanically
inclined. It's a lot easier to reassemble any steel shed than
originally.

When my Ex and I lived in a 12x65ft mobile home in the woods in the 1980s I did all sorts of work like that! I actually rented a small flatbed truck to haul the existing metal shed I had at the mobile home park that asked me to move because I worked on my old aircooled VWs too much!

I was young and strong then! No MS either. Now I'm getting old and have MS, etc. so...competent Subcontractors are a blessing!
