I wouldn't know. I was just recounting what I saw on an episode of 'The
Twilight Zone'. I've never heard of canned fried chicken.

It was a television show episode. The Twilight Zone. I have no idea
whether or not, in post apocalyptic war times there would be canned
fried chicken sitting around in a store for survivors to find. Ask Rod
Serling. Heh.

I can't imagine fried chicken in a can staying crisp.

In an apocalyptic war. Remember, the Cold War was still going on when
this was made. Us vs. the Commies.

In what war didn't different armies wear different uniforms?

I thought it was funny Elizabeth Montgomery was wearing a skirt! Yeah,
because women who go out on patrol wear short pleated skirts. LOL

They did join up. She went and found a dress in a store. She suddenly
was no longer a soldier. You needed a preacher to show up and marry
them? LOL

I've seen Swanson whole boiled chicken in a can. Decades ago, but it
does exist. With broth. I'll have to wander down that aisle at the
supermarket and see if they still sell a whole chicken in a can.

I think it may have been the only other performance she gave as a
brunette save for the dual role as her own evil sister in "Bewitched".

Nope. I'd try it out of curiousity. Never know, it might be
delicious. Doubtful, but maybe.

Putting her inside that bread box-shaped Chevy Nova can only have
enhanced the car's plebeian lines.

The beauty of a simple but clean design is the lines always work well
when custom paint is applied.

I think your Ford Cortina is another one of those timeless designs:

Sure - consider the similarities:

Cars were certainly goofy back then. I used to have a 65 Nova back in the day. Coasting down the mountain would cause oil to pool up inside the cylinders. Accelerating at the bottom would cause a trail of blue smoke to mark our path for about a mile. It was okay to do stuff like that back in the early 70's. Going up the mountain, I had to worry about the radiator losing all its water. That car was always an adventure but it made me who I am today.. I feel sorry for all those kids today with nice, reliable, cars.

That Ford Cortina's twin accent lines that meet up front and round tail lights reminds me of a 62 Rambler American. The Cortina's rear end had a much more finished, complete, treatment. The rear on the Rambler looks fairly uninspired. That's the breaks.

Real good analogy there - and it is a bit bland by comparison!

You needed a ring job and possibly a bore job. Sounds dirty, doesn't it?

You should have, at the very least, poured condensed milk into the
radiator to seal the leak. You probably needed belts and hoses too!
What kind of mechanic were you?

The car had a ring job soon as we got it. I think that mechanic was not a reliable person. Perhaps he cheated us. I've never heard of milk in the radiator. Thanks for the info. I'll remember to avoid anybody that does that. I'm a fan of Alumaseal, myself.

I was just a kid when we had that car. These days I'm older and wiser. Unfortunately, I'm starting to lose my facilities. I was doing a brake job on my son's car last week and could not remember where to attach one end of a spring. Looks like it's the end for me. That's the brakes.

A most wonderful design! It took a lot of guts to put out something so radical. I liked that clamshell hood too. Having that much access to the engine would be just awesome.

The only Brit car that I ever had was a BMC 1100. I was most impressed by it. There's probably no other car ever built that could seat 4 adults so handlily on such a small wheelbase. I had never seen a car with a transverse engine and front wheel drive before. I told my wife that one day all cars would have this drivetrain - and the rest is history.

The car came with a suspension that used liquid filled balloons instead of springs and shocks. Each wheel was connected to the one on the same side. This resulted in a car that was very loose around the pitch axis but allowed for almost zero roll during cornering and loading. Very unusual!

When I bought the car I had never driven a 4-speed before. The look of apprehension was probably very similar to that young girl. By the time we got it home, a couple of miles away, I had it figured out and was ready to drag race VW Bugs. Hee hee.

I said BMC because the car was sold under a wide range of marques in the British Motor Corporation, including MG, Morris, Vanden Plas, and Austin. I had the Austin America.
