This is a sleazy way to market and should be stopped.

The GOPs leading campaign and fundraising arm, the Republican National
Committee, is throwing its support behind a push that could let
robocallers spam your voicemail inbox

As I do not have unlimited minutes, I will put a message in the
voicemail welcome that I do not check voicemail and to please text or
call back and then let the damn spammers have the box till they overflow
it.

Or voicemail via any phone provider, including landlines. I have a
landline and an answering machine, not voicemail. I get a lot of calls
that immediately disconnect when they hit the answering machine.

Never thought about adding sweet potatoes to cornbread. Haven't thought
about the B-52's in years.

For an answering machine to work the phone line has to let it connect on
your end. Voice mail on a cell phone is held on a server by your
provider. They just program to go right to the voicemail connection and
you see it later. Just as when your phone is off it can get a voice mail

But, spam robocalls disconnect when they fetch up a landline's
answering machine.

I don't have a landline. I might get one spam call per month on my
cell. I very rarely get a voice mail.

Yes. That's why I pointed out such calls to my land line machine
immediately disconnect. Oh, and I just erase any odd messages.

That's a tale I never heard. Personally, I don't feel like I have to
answer the phone when it rings. Leave a message, maybe I'll call.

I sometimes answer if I'm not busy. The recorded calls are useless but
if you get person you can have fun with them. No matter how outlandish
what you tell them, they keep going. The guy calling about my student
loans did not question anything when I told him I graduated in 1967 with
a degree in 4th century Greek sculpture and have not found a job yet in
my profession.

The security alarms are free but they want the $30 a month to monitor.
I have a story about that too. I can't afford it because I spend all my
money on beer and hookers. No, my kids won't pay. Those greedy
*******s never call anyway.

If they ask my name, it is Vladimir Sobiesky. I'm from Volkalostov in
Russia. When I came to this country I brought 6 kilo of gold.

I HAD to resort to buying the ProCallBlocker; it's a one time
purchase and I've had mine for about 5 years now. It looks
like the original caller id devices that were sold when caller
id became available. My phone was ringing 8, 9, 10 times a day
and the phone ringing that much gets annoying very quickly.
The next day it would start all over again; there was no let up.
When I worked the night shift I had to turn off all the phones
just to get some sleep.

AT&T needs to have their asses kicked for not automatically
including some sort of blocking device in their services. In
last months bill they included instructions for blocking up to
60 calls, if I remember correctly, but they should have been
doing this years ago. The DoNotCall registry is a joke.

I'm sure it's a great service IF your local phone company subscribes
to it. But if it doesn't you have to resort to other means. But yes,
that was exactly what I was putting up with. Answering machine picking
up after 4 rings and then listening to several seconds of silence and
then 'click' only for them to call over and over and over and over.

Jill must have only gotten one or two calls per day.

I agree the Do Not Call Registry is a joke. Can't expect the government
to keep up with technology or the ever-changing forged numbers of the
robo-callers. I've actually gotten phone calls purporting to be from
myself to me. LOL

Can't you set the number of rings on your phone? I don't have a problem
turning ringer off. I don't let the telephone control my life. I'm
sure not going to pay to have someone do that for me.

I'm in the market for one, I have an old Radio Shack model that is wearing
out and not blocking sometimes. Is that model easy to set up and use? I want
easy.

I get a ton of them that go unanswered, but it's annoying to say the least.
My old device will only block 20 calls and not working well.

I am VERY pleased with mine and yes it's quite simple to set
up. It's kept me from living in a padded room wearing a
straight jacket. Take a look at all the models offered to
see which one you like best.

I love it when the phone rings once and then stops. I know
immediately that it's a number that I have previously blocked
and they got a disconnect.

I was particularly ****ed off when I bought mine years ago. I
opted for the model that will block about 1000 numbers. The
'counter' only goes to 100 but it will rollover and start
counting again.

TY, that's really all the info I need. I don't need a bunch of bells and

I ended up making my monthly telephone (and broadband) bill $30USD
cheaper. I kept the CID pkg, though. I tend to wanna answer the
phone, also, but if I do NOT recognize the CID, I let it go to
my answering machine. All but live callers get disconnected.

Don't blame ATT or Verizon. Our government thought that blocking calls
is not a good idea and would hinder commerce and they won't let the
phone companies block. Blame Congress. I did hear they are considering
changing the law.

Default OT Voicemail Spam

My answering machine records spam calls from all those annoying "account services,"
or "credit card services" spammers. They never quit, no matter how often they don't get
returned calls or hang-ups. In my area, they lately have hijacked phone numbers
and caller names that seem to be from local cell phone prefixes, or from my alma mater.

Evidently some of these phone companies have not heard that congress
doesn't approve of blocking telemarketers calls. NoMoRobo or whatever
it's called has been around for many, many years. If they think it's
not a good idea to block them then why didn't they come up with
the DoNotCall registry which is a backdoor way of them supposedly
not being able to call? If they don't approve of being able to
block calls then these call blockers that ANYBODY can buy would
be illegal.
