As usual, they give a lot of space to a quack who makes a bunch of
statements with nothing with which to back them.

I was surprised to see it in the vitamin aisle at Costco.

Regarless of what?

I consider it one of the most flavorless spices of all time. I don't
even bother to include it when I'm doing Indian recipes.

I've always heard good things about its health benefits and I use it a
lot. If it doesn't help, it probably won't hurt either.

So do I but I do chuckle when I hear them prattling on about how good
it is for you. I expect the people who start the rumour going are the
ones producing it.

Supposedly one of those "wonder cures" for "da gout", nb...along with dark cherry juice concentrate.

Tried both, neither worked..."oh, well"

So you can't taste it. I can. It also contributes to the smell of a
dish (which is a part of taste). A curry isn't quite right without it.
In that sense it is similar to a bay leaf.

I have started using a lot more of it lately. When baking chicken
pieces I usually sprinkle them with salt, pepper and an assortment of
herbs and spices. One time it was salt, pepper, chili powder, oregano
and turmeric, which probably sounds weird, but it turned out so nicely
that my wife now uses it regularly.

Doesn't sound all that strange to me. Maybe a *little* paprika would
be good too.

I wouldn't disregard it so quickly. Kooks are irrelevant, but there's
a lot of research being done into medical uses of turmeric. Below are

What does it matter? I believe it is beneficial anyway, but that's not
why I use it.

Grahame isn't half as objective as he likes to believe he is. He only
selectively cherry-picks his 'evidence' of science bunk and ignores
anything that contradicts his biases ,which gets very tiresome.

Usually it's other entities with their own agendas.

Turmeric adds little flavor, it mostly adds color, what makes mustard
yellow instead of grey... however turmeric supposidly adds
ontioxidents.

That's my attitude too. I use it because the recipe calls for it, and
if it happens to do me some good then great! In fact, I'll be making
a turmeric cream sauce to accompany salmon tonight - if I don't make a
pineapple, mango, roasted corn & cilantro salsa. They're both easy, so
it's just a matter of what I'm in the mood for at dinner time.

If we smoke, we may die before we get Alzheimer's. So smoking is good
against Alzheimer's.

Well of course, smoking kills you from lung cancer long before you
develop alzheimers.
