They are an endangered species but there are zoos that have them. Don't ask me which ones though. There's also the Tasmanian Tiger which was believed to be extinct since the 1930's but there have been numerous sightings reported over the years. My guess is that one day, they'll be in zoos too. That would be something.

At least attribute that, it was said by Bette Davis. More accurately
she said 'Getting old is no place for sissies'

If they live in Antarctica, screw them too. hehehh

Here's an unrelated thing that has been bothering me lately.
I watch these survival shows often and the players
often kill some animal in order to survive.
"Naked and Afraid" is a good example of this.

Last night, I watched some guy stalk a gopher for days
and finally kill it. One sad animal death all just
for our television entertainment.

I can understand killing for survival in a REAL
survival situation, but not just for a television show.

And as always, they say, "I hate to kill any creature
but this is just basic survival." Well, NO!@ It's
not basic survival, it's killing for a tv show.
That guy could have easily asked the film crew for
a PBJ sandwich and they could have pretended
that he killed the animal.

I think I need to turn vegetarian. I buy meat from the
grocery stores. They shield me from the death camps of
the animals involved. I doubt I could kill on my own.

In Steeplechase Park Coney Island there was a tall tower with a sign
at the bottom of a loooong set of narrow steps, said "See California
Red Bats". After climbing some one hundred steps there at the bottom
of a wire bird cage were a couple of wooden baseball bats painted red.
Every day thousands of people saw those bats.

That and the knowledge that a Vegan lifestyle leads to malnutrition.

http://vegetarian.lovetoknow.com/Dangers_of_Veganism

Restricted Diet
One of the biggest dangers of veganism is that the restricted diet may
cause malnutrition. This isn't unique to veganism; any restrictive diet
can lead to a lack of important nutrients. The main nutrients that can
be lacking in a vegan diet include vitamin B12, vitamin D, calcium,
iodine and omega-3 fatty acids. These deficiencies can cause ailments
such as anemia and osteomalacia, a condition that damages bones. In
children these deficiencies can result in rickets and other potentially
serious illnesses.

How our vegan diet made us ill
Holly Paige thought her family's food regime would boost their health
– but stick-thin legs and rotten teeth made her think again

One morning over breakfast, Holly Paige looked at her daughter and
realised things weren't right. Lizzie should have been flourishing.
Instead, her cheeks were pinched, she was small for her age, and
although she had skinny arms and legs, her belly was big and swollen.
When Lizzie smiled, Paige suddenly noticed her upper front teeth were
pitted with holes.

"I was absolutely horrified," recalls Paige.

At the time, Paige was feeding them what she thought was the most
nutritious diet possible. They had been raw vegans for three years, and
ate plenty of fruit, vegetables, nuts, seeds, grains, soya and pulses,
but no meat, fish or dairy. According to the raw-food doctrine, Lizzie
and Bertie, then three and four-and-a-half, should have been brimming
with good health. But Paige's mothering instinct was on the alert.

"I knew something was wrong, but I couldn't put a finger on it," says
Paige, 45. "They were two sizes behind in clothes.

Avian carnage is typical of flying rodents...

My guess is zoos are also an endangered species.
At least as we know them.

This would be true. They need an attraction such as the Tasmanian Tiger!

If they're anywhere at all, they are in the area I live.
There have been times we've come across animal remains in the bush
that are hard to explain.

I'd prefer to see all zoos take on the role of breeding endangered
species, with public viewing being the secondary role.

I am a fan of good zoos. It saddens me to see people dumping on zoos and
the concept of keeping wild <?> animals in compounds for people to see.
I appreciate that they think the animals should be in the wild, but I
think that they learned that attitude from having had the exposure to
animals in the zoo. Had it not been for marine parks, most people would
have no idea of the wonder of sea mammals like whales, seals and sea
lions. FWIW, I worked for a while at a marine park and trained an orca,
two elephant seals and a bunch of dolphins.

That's a good idea although I can't see how you can do the breeding of endangered species without a good supply of cash coming in.

Viewing must be primary role to get the money for the secondary
breeding. Its all about money.

Yes, I know, you just like to try and be scathing. Doesn't work
anyway.
