DC and areas south will be real mess, as they don't how to handle big snows...northerly folks will fare a bit better, as snow is a "given".

Don't you think it's lovely to cuddle up during a roaring storm, Ms. O...???

I'm hoping my son leaves work early enough to get home before the storm
hits - he lives in the woods in central NJ, about a couple of hours
south and west of where he works. They have a generator, so if the power
goes out (as it did last winter) the water and waste pumps will still
work, as will the heating and freezer. I just don't like the idea of him
out on the road in this.

Yep. It's unseasonably warm here but raining. We have flooding. One
school ceiling collapsed and they had to shut the school down. Had to shut
down the train in Edmonds. Too much mud on the tracks.

"Warren voted as a Republican for many years, saying, "I was a
Republican because I thought that those were the people who best
supported markets". According to Warren, she began to vote
Democratic in 1995 because she no longer believed that to be true, but
she states that she has voted for both parties because she believed
that neither party should dominate."

Hmmm...

It is going to swipe past us tomorrow but we are all prepared because
we are a difficult area to forecast, it only needs to alter course by
a few miles and cause a lot of trouble. I heard them mention it on
BBC but the forecaster said when it reaches you, mainly wind and rain.

It doesn't seem a lot of snow to us but then, we are used to it and
have all the snow clearing machines etc and ploughs, so it makes a
difference.

The power grid can't hear him say things like that. If the power
is going to go off, it'll do so no matter what he says.

That is why I said it is interesting to see and made no judgement. I
used to work in highway maintenance and know how much it costs to have a
fleet of trucks for plows and sanders, the facilities to house them, the
cost of maintenance and the training. If you only have storms like that
every few years it is cheaper to shut down and wait for cleanup than to
try to cope with it when it comes.

it is -6 C here now, 21 F, which is normal for this time of year.
Monday will be the anniversary of the Blizzard of 77 which was the last
real blizzard that hit the Niagara area. It was bad enough that it was
snowing but there were powerful winds. Lake Erie had frozen over and the
wind blew all the snow from the west end of the lake to the east, piling
it up along the north and the east shore area. Buffalo was clobbered.
My wife was snowed in at her school. We were living in Thorold at the
time and the snow was only knee deep, but closer to the lake there were
snow drifts that covered houses and trees.

It's been one hell of a storm! A ways to go, too. I'm near Washington DC
and Baltimore MD and I think we're like ground zero for the wind and
heavy snow, though I know it's been snowing hard plus ice south of me.
There was even thunder this morning.

I can't tell how much snow we've gotten so far because for one, I
haven't been out there yet and two, the drifting makes it hard to find a
spot where it's not impacted by drifts. At nearly 2pm here we have
white-out conditions. Can barely see the house across the street.
Luckily I haven't seen many cars which is strange because I live on a
very busy road. People must be being smart for a change.

Not looking forward to the cleanup later. Plus, we'll have temps in the
mid to upper 40s next week so we'll have a major melt. Now, as long as
the power stays on! *knocking wood*

Be sure and take precautions because there is warning of floods to come when
the snow melts
