You caught me there, Stevers. I was tempted to lie and say, "Yes that was a joke" but no...it was a senior moment. hahaha I'm a dumbass sometimes. It reminded me of past posts here where people will say to soak live clams, oysters, or mussels to let them expel the sand inside their shells. That's silly, imo. Once those salt water shellfish suck in one bit of fresh water they will choke and die immediately. I've eaten so much shellfish right out of the water (Gary caught) and I've never encountered a grain of sand in any. Most times, that "sand" is a chip of shell from opening them live. Steam them open and no sand ever in my experience. I do like buying fresh caught local shrimp occasionally. Only place to get that here is my local seafood market now. It's more expensive but a nice treat. The local fresh ones are sold whole unless you ask them to clean them for you. You get the whole shrimp just like it came out of the water...head,body,tail,legs and you devein them yourself too. > Not that brining them will do anything for their flavor, but still... I agree. Fresh water shrimp will never be salt water shrimp. |
