Are you asking if you can keep posts to rfc off your timeline? It can
be done.

I think the best thing for marriage is that you both laugh a lot and at the
same things) Works for us

Well, you know your friends better than we do. 8

Facebook is all about staying in touch with your friends, unless you
choose to use it for more than that..

Both rules seem pretty simple prima facie. It;s when you start trying
to overcomplicate them that you are probably breaking them!! Looking
for rationalizations of why YOU can break them.

Everyone has different schedules, and no one ever knows if another
will be home for an IRL encounter, so the Facebook Private Group is
kinda like leaving a note for someone else, electronically. In fact
it's EXACTLY like that!

Truedat!! Many times recently I've come into our kitchen and found
Vivian standing in the kitchen peering downwardsd into her little
electrtonic toy. Her smart phone. Another housemate had his laptop
computer on a kiitchen counter last evening to play him music as he
was cooking. Not the best place for a laptop, but it's his laptop, and
if he wants to put it at risk for getting something spilled on it, so
be it!

It's not REALLY secret, only by electronic "permissions". Facebook
admins, the NSA and any marginally competent hacker can or already has
access to it. But the general John Q. Public does not.

I never knew there was a parallel Facebook Group for the RFC Usenet

Yes, you are correct. It;s all basically the same, just with different
"features". Facebook is nice because it's terribly easy to upload pics
to and share with folks, which is a double edged sword, because then
you have to fiddle with Facebook Permissions to set accessability just
how you want it.

Exactly. I first created my Facebook account when I heard that my
nephew who lives in Portland OR was posting pics of his new house and
some renovations he was doing with it.

It's amazing more people don't recognise that fact.
But that's what you get with the general public (from all
demographics) now on the Internet.

I was alarmed to hear that some companies were moving away from laptops
and desktops because they saw their future in smaller formats like
tablets and smart phones. I figured that everyone already had a lap top
and/or a desk top and were jumping on tablets and iPads as a gimmick. I
bought a tablet for my wife but it was basically as a portable
electronic photo album for her. I use it to play Scrabble. I can't see
it replacing even a laptop.

Larry, I don't need FB to keep in touch...I use a couple old-style "round robin" letters,
email, and the telephone (a landline). Nobody "needs" FB.

For a similar reason I signed up many moons ago though it was my sister
who kept posting pics with FB links. Might add, I have subsequently
found it useful for catching up with some old friends

Even with a laptop I'll end up attaching a mouse

I know an awful lot of (not very computer literate) people around here
who have moved away from laptops and desktops to smart phones and
tablets, citing ease of use. I'll never understand that opinion, but
oh well.

Precisely. We are a society in transition and not everyone can keep up.

My iPad has effectively replaced my laptop for most things portable. The
iPhone, not so much. I prefer a reasonable screen size. The 10" iPad
gives me that, the iPad mini being a tad too small. The young seem not
to have this issue and i presume it has more to do with visual acuity
than anything else.

I do but I prefer the iPad. Size does matter! ;-)
