I don't know . . my Walmart is extremely clean, well stocked, the employees are personable, checkout is easy. Walmart here compares with Winco, Albertsons, Fred Meyer and Costco in cleanliness and neatness. Prices vary among all the stores. I shop Costco and Winco because of price. I sometimes shop Walmart when I am in the store to pick up prescriptions. I wouldn't be there for prescriptions, but my old prescription insurance saw fit to double the premium to over $50. That made me very unhappy. I get the same prescription service at Walmart for $15.70 per month. I can't bad mouth Walmart here. I do know that when I travel, I am appalled at what folks in other cities have to put up with in chain fast food stores, supermarkets, etc. No wonder many of you say you wouldn't shop or eat there. YMMV Janet US |

Gives you something to think about doesn't it? you're right! In the current issue of Consumer Reports, they surveyed 62,000 grocery shoppers who rated most every grocery in America on things like fresh vegetables and fruit. Wal-Mart was second from the bottom. I don't see anything wrong with Wal-Mart's produce department. I dare Consumer Reports to say anybody has lower prices than Wal-Mart. I say there are alot more tight wads like me who are creating all these new Wal-Mart openings every day around the world. Maybe I will splurge on some fruit and vegetables from the expensive stores for special occassions. William |

I only go there when I'm in a huge hurry, so it's extra annoying. The prices seem comparable to the grocery stores, except they are usually cheaper on one item, jalapenos. > I dare Consumer Reports to say anybody has lower prices than Wal-Mart. On produce on in general? I know damned well that I save lots of money shopping at ALDI and Shop'n Save, rather than Wal Mart. > I say there are alot more tight wads like me who are creating all > these new Wal-Mart openings every day around the world. There are tight wads who know that A LOT is two words, and many of us would beg to differ. There are 2 products* that I buy at WM because they are a lot cheaper, but most stuff is not, and the quality of their softlines is awful. They are, according to my son and his friends, much cheaper on candy. > Maybe I will splurge on some fruit and vegetables from the expensive > stores for special occassions. Other stores have ad prices that are lower than WM's prices. Next week's ad at Shop'n Save has 5# bags of russets for $.98, store brand (EE) box mac&cheese for $.10, 2L store brand sodapop for $.50, and bottles of Maull's BBQ sauce for $.77. * Equate brands of nicotine gum and diphenhydramine tablets > > William --Bryan |

YMMV > Janet US The ones here really vary. The one that I like the best is actually in a rather depressed, high crime area. I have read of incidents online but have not actually seen them. I have seen things at the nearby Walmart and it would seem that Winco has also had problems because they have certainly upped the visible security and other employees throughout the store and in the parking lot. I was also told of problems at the nearby Grocery Outlet. They ask for I.D. when using a debit card because they get a lot of stolen ones. The grocery one seems fine as well. But the one in Lynnwood is not so good. I had a friend who used to live near it and she said that the parking lot is ripe with drug deals. There is always a huge line at Customer Service and many of those people are trying to return stolen goods. Some of the customers and I use that term lightly because I'm not sure they are actually in there to buy stuff, just do not act right. Like they're on drugs or have a mental problem or something. The other one in Everett is like entering a third world country. Most of the people you see in there do not speak English. They just dart in front of people and shout in some other language. And you are stuck standing in line forever just like at the Lynnwood store. I can't say much about the Marysville store. I have only been in it perhaps 2-3 times and only to get specific things. We weren't browsing around. But it is in the casino area and that's a high crime area. |

If you make your own salad from purchased bulk produce, it might be a healthier choice since you are sick quite often. Also, it is more expensive to buy pre-shredded and processed salads. ===== |

Good prices on canned vegetables too if you're not brand loyal. Not necessarily good prices on refried beans though. |

Most of what I bought wasn't even food. They did not have any meat or produce in those days. Could have changed since. I bought something in a can. Vegetables or something like that. And some cans of off brand soda. Those things were okay. I have a male friend in Chicago and he swears by Aldi. He loves their bagels. |
