Default Raw Hamburger Patties: Would They/Could They?

In the Assessment thread it was suggested I buy hamburger. (In that
instance, *cooked* hamburgers which would then be crumbled and used to
make something else at home. Nope, I wouldn't do that.)

Steak tartare aside, what about raw hamburger patties? If you walked
into a restaurant and said you wanted to buy some raw hamburger patties,
would they/could they sell them to you?

Seems to me there would be all sorts of health department regulations
that come into play. Some restaurants won't even let you order a burger
rare or medium-rare.

What say you?

I'm sure they would not put them on a but and sell it as a burger, but
to sell it as just raw meat should not be a problem.

That said, there could still be some arcane regulations that as a
restaurant you can't sell bulk foods. That would mostly be local or
state laws governing business licenses.

what say they?

asking for them frozen might be your best bet.

I don't see why not. You're not asking for a discount, just raw meat
to go.

I'm thinking if they're selling cooked patties, it means they
precooked burgers that went unsold, so they froze them. Yuck! I see
absolutely no reason why they couldn't/wouldn't sell hamburger raw.
They're selling you raw steaks, so why not raw hamburger too. They
obviously came to the restaurant raw, preformed and frozen - so they
would go from freezer to freezer.

Go to a Cash and Carry or something similar. You will find frozen raw hamburger patties there.

They weren't selling *cooked* patties. That would be Yuck! to the max. LOL

The initial suggesion was I order (cooked) hamburgers, sans buns. Or
just hamburgers then deconstruct them when I got home. I've frozen lots
of things in my life but cooked hamburgers don't count among them.

Then she said raw patties and I thought hmmmmm. I wonder if they'd do
that? I looked online about the topic in general. Opinions seem to
vary. I know they aren't using pre-formed, uniformly stamped, all the
same frozen patties for their burgers. That's a good thing.

That was my thought, they were selling (and I bought) raw steaks.
Really nice looking steaks, BTW.

Still, it wouldn't cross my mind to ask if I could buy raw hamburger
patties. Grinding meat seems to have a lot more safety handling
regulations than does simply cutting and wrapping raw steaks from a slab
of beef.

Why would you want to buy raw hamburger patties at a restaurant?

It is sort of amazing that anyone on this group would not know that. Over

A restaurant would probably not and neither would they serve you raw steaks.
But you are referring to a club and clearly different rules apply.

So beat me over the head with a two-by-four. I forgot about the club

Not really. It's still a restaurant, subject to the same health rules
and regulations, certifications, etc. as any other restaurant.

My question wasn't would the CLUB do it... would restaurants do it?
Chances are they wouldn't.

I wouldn't. It was suggested I do so. I'm thinking, you probably can't
just walk into a restaurant (and the Club is a restaurant, make no
mistake) and get them to sell you raw hamburger patties. I don't think
most places would do it.

Some fifty years ago driving cross country with my cat I tried to buy
a raw beef patty for cat food, somewhere in Iowa I think, they
wouldn't sell it, was against the law for a resto to sell raw meat.
That evenining I bought a nice steak at a market and cooked it rare on
my pie plate grill, my cat Marbles loved it:

Only way to know is to ask. I'm sure there wouldn't be a hard and fast rule
on this that would apply to all restaurants. Some places will sell you
pizza dough. Some won't.

And there would likely be no reason for people to do that either. But the
club is different at least in terms of money.

I doubt they'd sell me raw hamburger patties. Nor am I sure I'd want
them to. I do occasionally order a hamburger there. They're tasty and
they don't get all ascared when I order one this side of medium-rare.

That certainly doesn't answer my question about whether or not a
*restaurant* would sell anyone raw hamburger patties if they walked in
and asked for them.

Hence my question. The club *did* sell raw steaks at their use up the
assessment event so it made me wonder. If I walked into any other
restaurant in town and asked to buy raw burgers would they sell them?

Our local King Soopers (Kroger) usually has raw, fresh hamburger patties in the meat case. I thought it would be seasonal for summer, but the store I went to last week had a selection of different preformed patties available.. Every grocery market (also Costco) has packages of frozen patties for sale.

Not trying to beat a dead horse, truly! I'm asking about buying them at
a restaurant, raw, to take home with you. Not a grocery store.

If they are selling raw meat anyway, then the answer should be yes.
If they are flaunting local laws, then who knows.

Shepherd's Pie was made with beef at my house too.

That said, I made the 4-7 hour lamb (depending on whose recipe it was)
yesterday and have enough leftover for two very generous Shepherd's
Pies. Hubby was so excited about it, he thought I was going to make
it today. Um, I have other things that need to be cooked first Dear!

Burger King also won't sell you just the toy from the kid's meal. McD's
will. Burger King requires you to buy the meal to get the toy.

Uh, what? I got a whole collection of BK reindeer "toys" just driving
through and asking for them. Seems to me I paid a quarter each for them.
