The yogurt places are popping up all over here too. We tried one, but
our assessment is the same as yours. Very difficult to find a place
with really good ice cream at any price. Going out for ice cream used to
be a fun summer treat but these days I just keep some Hagen Daz in the
freezer.

Many places with counter-only service have tip jars. No law says you
have to drop money into them.

There were lots of frozen yogurt places in the Memphis area. TCBY has
been around for decades. I don't remember them selling it by weight
unless you were perhaps buying a pint or a quart container to go.

There are a couple of ice cream shops in my area. Southern Sweets Ice
Cream Parlor on Bay Street in downtown Beaufort; Bruster's Real Ice
Cream on the other side of Beaufort. I don't recall making any special
trips to go out for ice cream. I just keep some in the freezer for when
the occasional craving hits.

TCBY in our area closed a few years ago. Used to be able to buy cones,
cups, etc.

The new places are self service. You take a cup, pull the lever for the
flavor of your choice and take as much or little as you want. Next step
is topping, sut up like a salad bar. Typical fruits, jimmies, crushed
cookies etc. Pile on what you want. At checkout, they put it on the
scale and you pay by the pound.

Going out for ice cream is a cheap date. Just an excuse to go out with
my wife for some quiet time together.

Is it like soft serve? What I remember was scooped by actual employees.
Yes, a long time ago.

Uh, okay. Frozen yogurt isn't something I'd go out of my way to look
for. You may have my toppings.

Sounds nice. Sort of like the scene from the film, 'Guess Who's
Coming to Dinner'.

Yes, looks like the same machine. The day we went they have four
flavors to choose from.
