It's amazing to me that a skill that should be one of the essential
basics of life is so neglected by most people. The majority of men and
women I know can't cook in any real sense beyond heat-n-serve type crud
from the processed food aisles.

Yep. Most people can't be bothered to do it. And they eat so much of that
crap that when they do eat the real thing, it doesn't taste right to them.
